I've always enjoyed the boat race. Couldn't give less of a toss about the boats, but I went to school in Chiswick and it was always a lively day of drinking tinnies in the sun with a decent atmosphere. Fvcked it off this year because of the weather, but it is usually a laugh
On the one occasion I went to watch it was a good day out and a laugh. The pubs along the river were all buzzing and the Hooray Henry types mostly disappeared shortly after the race itself finished. Later on the tide came in and almost covered some cars parked outside the pub we were in. This also left us no option but to stay around drinking until it went out again.
