Surely with a bit forward planning that buying one of these is required with the weather we have in this part of the country..... In the long run it would save £££££s.

An apology wouldn't bother me. I'm an adult and so can cope with stuff not being perfect. The club certainly hasn't done this on purpose and there will be plenty of folk there who have been working hard to get the match on. Without a magic wand, there's not a lot that can be done in the current circumstances They've given us notice of a day and a half and that'll do me.
There's stuff not being perfect and there's being a professional football club that can't provide a surface that can be played on. The pitch hasn't been right for 18 month. Either the club have maintained it wrongly or the people who laid it 18 month ago and 12 month ago have done a really sh!t job, for which legal action should surely be taken against them if that's the case.
There's no excuse for our pitch being as bad as it is. Playing fields all around Rochdale aren't as bad as that. What happens if we can't play Millwall before the 18th Feb?

There is no guarantee that this 'drill and fill' will work. And the club have already said they are ripping up the pitch in the summer and going for a top fibresand pitch using the firm who have done Wembley - this is going to cost hundreds of thousands but should last a long time. This has obviously ruled out re laying the current surface which could have been done like last season - even if this current surface dries out it is going to be horrendous for playing football on.
Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10
Surely we must now be looking at moving our home games to an alternative ground? It is very clear we aren't going to playing at Spotland anytime soon.
The state of the pitch will also kill any chance of the replay against Millwall being televised as the TV companies simply won't take a chance on the game being postponed.
With the ever increasing backlog of fixtures due to cup games and postponements we'll end up being relegated by fatigue!

"drill and fill" does work if done properly although it knackers the quality of the playing surface.
It might be our only option to get games on.
Otherwise come Cup Final day we could see:
Man City v Millwall/Rochdale/Coventry/Tottenham/Man. Utd/West Brom.
Absolutely pathetic. If the Football League decided to issue a penalty against the club it'd be more than deserved. The high rainfall in Rochdale is a nonsense excuse. Our problems in previous seasons have been frozen pitches and mainly on the bit by the main stand that doesn't get much sun. The pitch should have been fixed in the summer. It's clearly unsafe now. An absolute f**king farce.
Again, if we had a new pitch re-laid at this time last year in a week, why aren’t we doing it now?
Yes, it will only get us until May, but we know from last year that it will do just that. Currently we are doing all these other things which cost money with no guarantee they will work. A new surface will, so why isn’t that happening?

The money we have accrued for reaching this stage of the FA Cup would surely go a long way in temporarily relaying it until the end of the season? Hopefully then it gives us a good chance of playing our game and beating Millwall to recoup much of that initial outlay

Whatever the cost is, and it must be feasible as we paid it 12 months ago, is justified by illustrating we really want to address the problem. They can argue that it’s a lot only to rip it up in the summer, but that’s a non- starter because right now we are in danger of every game being in doubt.
It really makes no sense whatsoever. This was obvious from the Lincoln game onwards. Three weeks have been wasted.

The club say they've been taking 'expert advice'
Either the expert advice was not to relay, or the club have ignored it

just need to do what we did in amateur football in my day and play 2 games on the same day back to back. Soon get rid of the backlog . Will then be able to do some good 2 for the price of 1 offers for non season ticket holders too

The threat of being financially penalised for inevitable postponements should be enough for the club to be proactive. Couple this with the fact that it would illustrate that we are serious about trying to retain our League 1 status and it's a no brainer. It's so frustrating.
Yes - as we've still to play them away they asked if we could switch the game to an away fixture and play the home game on Feb 24th instead - obviously Wigan don't need to do this so they've said no.
Ugh. On the one hand I'm glad the club at looking at alternatives to get our ever-increasing backlog of games down, but on the other it's so cringe-worthy and non-league that we'd actually consider playing a home game away.
Some posters have mentioned playing at alternative grounds. Does anyone know anywhere localish that would allow us to play there and accommodate 3,000 fans?
Our pitch is an embarrassment to the club. We used to have the best ground staff and pitch in the league.
A few years ago, I seem to remember Halifax Town switched a game to Spotland. Can they return the favour? Salford City used to host our reserves, can they host us? What about Man City's Academy Stadium? (I don't think Stalybridge has enough seats to host league football)

Why are we asking Ann Summers for pitch advice anyway?
Based on the video it would take until now and next august to drill n fill.... Plus they are adding sand into the holes is adding sand into the holes solve the drainage problem...

That green looks pretty big and they can do that in an hour with 2 machines. I suspect the speed of the process depends on how much money and urgency you throw at it so I'll let you draw your own conclusions on that.
It would have been nice to see a before and after. The closing shot showed a brown expanse with no grass, but we already have one of those. Anyway, I'll supress my inherent cynicism for now and wait and see what it looks like with my own eyes at the next home game.
