Undisclosed fee, eh? I hate it when clubs do this.
Scenario 1: Keep the fee to yourself. Nobody wants to hear that we sold him for 8000 Tesco Clubcard Points and a KFC Family Bucket.
Scenario 2: Don't tell anyone but... WE'RE RICH! RICH, I TELL YOU!! But, you know, keep it under your hat so we don't get our pants pulled down in the transfer market.
Scenario 3: They paid cash, you say? Well, of course we'd like to roll around in it for a couple of hours. No need to tell the tax man, eh?'
'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

Disappointed he never fulfilled much of his potential but there's no ill feeling for him from my side - didn't get much of a chance and then we changed to a manager and system that doesn't suit him. The wages off the books is welcome and hopefully we actually got some dough for him.
If we can also loan out Goss, find a buyer for Sylla and maybe even move Washington on, we can hopefully get to the end of the season with youth replacements and pocket the money saved.
Other 'big earners' like Robinson will go in the summer and we'll be able to start from scratch.

best for both parties IMO - always seemed to be chasing the ball around the pitch having little or no affect on the game. If it means we cut the wage bill and recoup some money the more the better. Guess as its undisclosed its more likely we got dicked again. We are not short of number 10's.
Thought he would be a big player for us at the start but as the season went on he just didn't seem to be up to the hustle and bustle of champs football.
One of these players who doesn't have a position nailed down. Was he a winger? Number 10? Striker?
Fact is, I don't think the squad is weakened by his departure.

Other fringe players like Grego-Cox, JET and Petrasso also out of contract in the summer. The squad is becoming more manageable.
I’d like to see Borysiuk and Washington go in this transfer window.
Any views on whether Robinson and Perch will be renewed? I’d love to see Robinson stay but it may depend on how close we are to FFP limits. He implied in newspaper article recently that he’d like to stay.

Robinson going by most accounts, big wages and interest from elsewhere. Nice to have seeing as he's established himself so well this season but a luxury we seemingly can't afford.

Unfortunate for many reasons - the bereavement as soon as he got here which hampered him settling into a new country and a tough league, then the change of manager. He's never really fitted into the system Holloway wants to play. Say it all the time, everytime you change the manager you end up with people who were bought by or for his predecessors for one reason or style and now that reason or style don't exist any more. The more you change the manager, the more of these you accumulate in the squad. We've got half a dozen currently.
the manager turnover is the biggest shame with all of this because before we went retro and appointed Ollie, the idea had been to build a playing style through the age levels and so the identity of the manager mattered less as the players bought would suit the style of play that we were going to play. We somewhat chucked that theory out the window when Ollie joined and I guess this summer is when the plan should really take shape...lots of players out of contract, finally have no massive earners on the books and maybe we will be able to build an identity...

maybe since we have got rid of caulker and ngbakoto we may be able to sign robinson
however if huddersfield remain in the prem I would think he'll mosy on there

He's good enough for a top 6 Championship team for sure, the fact he's still relatively young, can play more than 1 position and has a long throw also helps make him a good signing for people that can pay much more than we will.

Where have you heard that from Simmo?
In terms of big wages, what do we call big wages these days? Onouha must be on £20k a week?
We've a squad of 30, need to get that down to 20.
Mackie, JET, Perch, Onouha, Robinson are all out of contract this summer Caulker and Yeni gone Syllan and Washington likely to go
I'm surpirsed we havent signed Lumley up for longer.
Summer 2019 - loads of 1st time will be out of contract so need their futures decided whilst we can still make money on them.
Bidwell, Pawel, Lynch, Ariel, Hall, Cousins, Furlong, Shipodo, Smyth, Niko and Baptiste

Don't know if you ever watch any sort of top level football but wing/forwards in the style of Yeni hugely outnumber out-and-out specialist wingers and strikers these days.
Of course you have to coach that type of flexibility for it to be successful.
Nice that he's leaving just in time to see Ollie unveil the new 2x10 brainwave.

I spoke to him at the Villa game and asked him why he thought he wasn't in the squad. He said, in extremely good English (another myth dispelled) that the club mostly select him as a winger whilst he prefers the number 10 role. He added that he wasn't sure when he would get another opportunity to show what he can do.
In typical Ollie fashion then, he was selected to play against Derby County some three days later. Presumably he didn't cut the mustard because he was subbed off for Washington in the second half. Seemed to be a very nice chap but from what I've seen of him, not a player that can make a difference at Championship level.
Thanks for the insight
Interesting that Ollie has only started using a hybrid second-striker/No 10 in recent matches (Freeman playing off Smith at Ipswich, Samuel playing off Smith against Millwall and Sylla against Bristol C, Smyth playing off Smith against Cardiff) when we had Yeni all this time.
Good riddance, though. I never really rated Yeni. We should have gotten rid of him at the start of the season.
Hopefully he goes on to have success in France

For me we need to pay the bigger wages to keep performing senior pros like Robinson and Onouha at the club - if we try and change everything to young U23 players all at once we'll get relegated next year - it's a classic mistake. You need a mix.

Reports/gossip online suggests we got £1.5m for him - though another 'ITK' claims that, having read the French press, it was £3.5m.
If we got £3.5m for a player we bought for £1.5m 18 months ago and never played then we should spend some of the money on a statue of Hoos and Ferdinand making the 'loadsa money' gesture.

When I said this once whilst sitting in Ellerslie some of our lovely fans turned on me and started abusing me. Spent the whole game doing it as well. The kind of angry men who like to go to games to get aggressive. Anyway enough about my childhood... just like Tactical says he just never showed the guts or drive to really get involved. He was clearly a very talented player technically so it's a shame.
Don't know where you were sitting in Ellerslie Westbourne but all the people who sit round us in R block could never see what he was supposed to be doing on the pitch, ran around aimlessly, couldn't beat a man and lacked any sense of positional play, even to the extent somebody said it was like watching a dog chase a ball round the park, cruel but he just didn't show any promise or fit into our style of play.
If you contrast that with the debuts of Smyth, Shodipo, Manning, Freeman, Scowen, Luongo, Wszolek there is no contest, that said when are we going to see Shodipo and Manning again.
Wish the lad lots of success and hope he finds his game again back on home soil.

Complete and utter waste of money I hope Penrice had nothing to do with scouting him If that's whats £1.5m buys we need to be be better at spotting players Smyth did more in his one game than Yeni did his whole time here

He was scouted more than a year before Penrice joined us.
Never knowingly understood
