P.M. Theresa May's speech to U.S. Congressional group 01:50 - Jan 27 with 9783 viewsDavillin

I know that many of you do not think well of Theresa [edit: Thanks PhactOrri and other posters] May, but I truly hope that you will put aside as you read my post.

I watched her 32-minute speech to the U.S. Republican Congressional retreat in Philadelphia earlier today.

I recommend it to you.

She was very well received, with many interruptions for applause, and not a few for standing ovations, as she painted a word picture of the long-standing relationship between our two countries. And, without mentioning our previous president's having allowed that relationship to wither [at least], she made a strong appeal for a renewal of it [standing ovation].

Not only do I not believe the oft-repeated notion as completely false that the United States treats the United Kingdom as an inferior, I am offended that we are so demeaned. Both our countries, by the way.

In all my life, I have never heard a single word about our relationship except positive ones. I believe and know that she described the American view of that relationship with 100% accuracy.

Her speech and the congressmen and congresswomen are well worth your time and effort.

P.S., did your media point out that one of the very first acts of President Trump on his first day in the White House was to return the bust of Winston Churchill to its pre-Obama place of honor in the Oval Office?

F*ck America, backward f*cking country that it is.

They are like the pr1ck in school who had everything, who liked to tell everyone they had everything, but no-one actually gave a f*ck for them.

Yeeehaaaaa look at how big my house/tv/car/bank balance is.

Are you typing what a "backward" country America is on technology developed in California...on the internet which the American military did so much to develop...from the comfort of a country protected by the NATO alliance, backed up by American military superiority.
Yeahhh, f*ck Americans...without whom we could well be speaking German...f*ck those people who are the biggest economy in the world and want to do a trade deal with us.
Let's go back to the French and the Germans, the tubes of lube are on me!

Absolutely, the same French and Germans that held us in contempt all throughout our membership of the E.U. The French loath us because ourselves and the Americans liberated their country in 1944 and Germans hate us because we defeated them in two World wars and they have never got over that! Throughout Europe there are scores of War cemeteries filled with the bodies of young British,American and Commonwealth men who gave their lives to make sure we stayed free and not be ruled by a foreign power. The people that voted for Brexit aren't all swivel eyed racists, they are people that remembered the sacrifices their Fathers, Mothers,Grandfathers,Grandmothers and the previous generations made. But the present generation just see us as not being good Europeans just like the Blair creature who lets be honest was in the whole thing for personal gain. I live in America and we are respected becauce we stood along side the US in various conflicts throughout the last century and into this one.

Never voted conservative before but fair play, that was a darn good speech.

It takes a ot of balls to get up and speak in front of the grand old party and she did it impeccably.

Can't agree with a lot she's saying, but she is a good stateswoman and a good voice for the UK.

As regards Ms. Le Pen it is interesting to note that as regards her main rival for the Presidential elections, Francois Fillon, "France’s financial prosecutors opened a preliminary probe on Wednesday into suspected embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds.

In what way does that make Le Pen a suitable candidate to be president.

A far more pointed question would be "Where are they right . . . ?"

I read around in The Guardian on a regular basis, and I do not know what country they are writing about when they start on the U.S., or who, when it's about Trump.

They'd make Alice's Wonderland look coldly rational.

...and once again JackhimselfOff hasn't much to contribute to the debate so he attacks the poster.

I don't know if you knew but he read a book once on tax havens.

I mentioned Corbyn as people were attacking May's performance.
It is reasonable to imagine how the proposed alternative would cope is it not?

May's speech?
It's called diplomacy.
In the real world (the one where we are not planning on scrapping all debt and ditching paper currency anytime soon) we don't expend effort and political capital on futile exercises.
American people voted for Trump, not ours.
May has a chance of getting a good deal and exerting some influence.
Corbyn would only be invited to Washington if the circus was in town and Coco needed replacing quickly.

If you'd care to re-read posts previous to your initial one in this thread, people were not, in fact, 'attacking May's performance' - comments were aimed at May herself, and some tongue in cheek. So once again you twist facts and build a straw man to suit your own agenda. As you do. Added to that, the last paragraph in your initial post is pure conjecture and not based in any fact, just as your fourth line in this one. You imagining is just that - your imagination - it's not based in fact, however you may want to spin it.

I mentioned the tax havens book last week on the debt thread as it was relevant to the thread (not started by me btw). In fairness, I may have mentioned it once or twice before *ahem*, but only because I think it's an important issue.

Anyway, as you were.

I play a game of "count the straw men" whenever Kerouac posts. It's good fun. There are at least a dozen (probably more) scattered around various threads on the first page of the forum alone. But since his Freud-esque character assassination of me the other day, which was very entertaining, I'm a bit scared of him.
