Is Cardiff a good capital city for Wales? 17:08 - Nov 12 with 6802 views | johnlangy | While checking out the walesonline link in the 'Welsh Language' thread I noticed another article titled 'Is Cardiff a good capital city for Wales? I've commented, not favourably as you'd expect. Perhaps a few of you would also like to contribute.

Is Cardiff a good capital city for Wales? on 13:27 - Nov 16 by PTBaglanJack | Are there any figures anywhere comparing the "Public" (ie WAG/Westminster) money invested in Cardiff vs Swansea? Not including council money, as that is down to Swansea & Cardiff! |
I remember someone on here posted an article by the Daily Post for per Capita spend across Wales. I think it was Copper or JohnL. Per Capita spend is the fairest way of distribution as the higher population areas get the larger spend. The figures compared North to South Wales were either 2 to 1 or even 3 to 1 in favour of the South. Now when you compare investment in Cardiff to investment in the Swansea Bay Region then this figure is going to be even more skewed. I wish I could find that article. Per Capita spend is only part of the argument though. It is the lack of will to encourage investment outside of the Cardiff bubble that is also wrecking Wales. Jac O the North is suggesting that the Circuit of Wales is currently subject to both media and WAG criticism. The original argument was reasonable as they did not want to throw money at it without assurances. Not entirely convincing though as they are prepared to do that to a nearly bankrupt Aston Martin. Now the COW is very close to obtaining full Private Sector funding however the project still is getting bad press and WAG response as, despite being in the fringes of the joke Cardiff Metro, it moves traffic out of Cardiff not into it. If this attitudes a is replicated across Wales then the rest of Us are well and truly done for until we shift this lot out and get a media that represents the views of the whole of Wales and has offices across the whole of the Principality. Well this is happening by default due to lack of investment in Swansea Bay and the continued developments in Cardiff. People are travelling in ever increasing numbers up there by bus, car and train to shop in Cardiff. I used to work with a woman from Neath who was employed in Swansea and did not spend a penny of her earnings there. All her home purchases were in the SE. There are many more like her.
