Excellent post, better than I could have put it, and I didn't mention Castle gardens, Leisure centre, Slip bridge, the list is endless, no way down to Cardiff bias, just Swansea incompetence

I dont believe we can lay the total blame at the door of WAG. Swansea city centre began to detrioate once the Quadrant was built. High Street immediately began to lose shops, ever since successive councils and their officers have done more damage to the centre of of this "ugly, lovely, town" than the luftwaffe during the 3 night blitz.
Allowing the creation of the "out of town" shopping at the enterprise zone initally earmarked as an "industrial" zone, Fforestfach, the creation of Parc Tawe it self with no alignment to the Quadrant or the St Davids centre whihc was built in the early late 90s. The David Evans redevelopment was supposed to bring in new flagship stores but that never happened. Our council can never decide what is the best traffic system,I hav lost count of the number of times Wind Street has been one way, two way or pedistrianised the Kingsway is a shambles,We had our chance in the late 70's and eighties to build something on par with Cardiff but what did we end up with? Cardiff Bay cam way after our Marina but it thrives, take a walk around the South dock now its not very inspiring commercially. But then its all been a Cardiff conspirancy

The Quadrant, when built, was successful, and has only been a shambles compared to the multi-billion pound St Davids Centre. High St lost shops yeah, but that's because the town centre moved from the periphery, into the centre, where the bus station was etc. If you look at Swansea town centre in the 90s, it had shops, footfall - even in the early 00s. It's been since roughly 2005 that it fell to pot. Every other city has built retail parks (including Cardiff), and it's difficult to attract flagship stores to a relatively-deprived area without certain grants (like reduced ground rent etc), but, obviously, we were never offered them like our cousins in the East.

There was not much of a difference between Swansea and Cardiff until devolution. Yes, many of their pre-war grand buildings survived whereas many of ours perished, but, largely, neither city was thriving. Now look at the difference. Amazing what billions of investment can achieve isn't it? Cardiff Bay blew the marina out of the water because it cost billions to create. The WAG spends £20m per annum just maintaining the damn place! Can you tell me a single investment in Swansea which they've spent £20m on ever, let alone annually?

As has been said on here many times, 40 miles doesn't make good councillors, or make them particularly enlightened (despite what the Welsh media would have you believe). It's easy when fantastic developments are built for you, bringing in thousands of tourists, and thus, revenue. This also helps attract more retailers and businesses, and the cycle continues. Nobody notices it because the Welsh media ignore it (but are quick to highlight if Westminster ever does anything similar), and people just accept it's the status quo. Cardiff is the way it is because the people there are precocious and always have been, whereas Swansea just wants to fail. This is the image projected by the Welsh media, which, coincidentally, is based in Cardiff.

Nothing will ever change because people believe all the 'good for Wales' nonsense.

So what about the disastrous decisions made by the Council listed in the thread, you can't blame those on the WAG, it didn't even exist

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

Spot on Copper. Excellent posts. I just don't get it when punters on here feel we are blaming WAG and letting Swansea Council off the hook because of some misguided anti Cardiff argument. As you have already said they believe the spin being produced by BBC Cardiff.
Swansea Council, BBC Cardiff and WAG are all culpable in our City's demise but for me WAG are ultimately responsible as they promote the initiatives and ultimately point the investment in the direction they want. It sure as Hell is not in our direction, or anywhere else in Wales outside of the Cardiff bubble for that matter.

I'm just pointing out what a disaster the local Council have been to our Town/City for years before the Assembly government even existed

OK point taken, and I agree with with you, but you have to admit the demise has been much more pronounced since WAG came into being. We were doing OK before that and Cardiff were not much better (if at all ) despite the Luftwaffe's best efforts on us. Menacingly though the the media was centered there and our Alexandra Road studios were about to down graded to a cupboard with a camera and a caretaker......

Thought I would resurrect this one. They now have a website and the trailer is very encouraging. Does anyone watch it live and, if so, what do they think if it now? It seems there were bad reports at the start as they were only covering the Jazz festival.
I still can't get it in Dunvant. My ariel is pointing in the Kilvey direction but I suspect I am receiving Wenvoe instead. Hence all I can get is Made in (bloody) Cardiff. This despite retuning many times . Retuning with the ariel disconnected then trying again. Even tried different TV sets. It will be shame if this fails due to the fact we only get the Cardiff version. Still that is in keeping with the general media doctrine in Wales..........
