And the reason that he does well at it is because he is able to discuss being a gay man in the context of teams, being a leader (Wales and Lions) and so on, and, therefore, men in these organisations respect him (I say men, because in general, and I realise it is only in general, women don't tend to have an issue with people being gay).

He's shown he's happy to lie in pursuit of money. I'd suggest somebody who cynically lies about and uses his "diversity" to get money isn't the best person to use for diversity training.

'Daley' did go about his normal life - the problem that he had was this - he was contacted by a media outlet who told him that he had a choice - either they were going to make public details about his sex life in a salacious way, or he could control it himself in return for an exclusive interview.
Gareth Thomas does an enormous amount of anti discrimination work with big multi national companies, giving talks to staff etc about diversity. Yes he could decline the pictures bit (which are of course publicity for his book) but all 'celebrities' try to earn as much as possible from books and so on, and all do publicity. The problem Dwight, is that if there was a picture of, for example, Cristiano Ronaldo and his 'girlfriend' in a paper, you wouldn't think that he was 'using his sexuality' - you wouldn't, in fact, comment.
Gareth Thomas / Tom Daley / Thorpe / whoever don't flaunt their sex lives any more than any other 'star' - there are constantly pics of Rooney with Colleen, or Gerard with Alex Gerard, or particularly Beckham with Victoria - are they 'using being straight'?
It's you that's differentiating.
And in football terms, the fact that most clubs are this weekend, wearing rainbow laces to highlight the problem with homophobia in football (not one gay premier league player - yeah right!) shows that many people still do care. In demand certainly - I don't know myself, but I understand from people that have seen him talk that he's very very good and very inspiring - as I say, I haven't seen him so that's just hearsay. I know a few people at banks and at other firms that have seen him talk.
I don't believe that he does lie does he? - I haven't read his book or whatever, but when he's speaking he makes it very clear that he was gay for years and that it was known to his circle.
Re his wife - again I don't know the facts. I imagine (perhaps wrongly) that she also knew about it for years and years (if not then she was one of the few that didn't).
To be honest Reddy, I am not defending him in particular - the thing I took exception to was the 'flaunting it' bit. In my opinion, everytime someone is seen with their partner, be it male or female, they are to an extent making their sexuality obvious. It's just that it only seems to be gay men that are ever criticised for it.
I am quite prepared to believe from people that know a lot more about 'Alfie' than myself that he is not a nice guy or whatever - the only issue that I have is that is separate from him being gay. there are lovely people and horrible people who are straight and equally who are gay. As I just said to Reddy, my umbrage was not about Gareth Thomas specifically, it is the notion of 'flaunting' it that I take exception to.
See I have no problem with anything that you've said in your post other than the last bit. In general, I can't be bothered with seeing celeb pics over and over again, whether it be Elton & David or Brad and Angelina, but the pics of 2 men just seem to get noticed more.
And I also believe, in sports, there is still a problem - it's all very well saying that the majority don't care (which is true in general life) but there's a weirdness in sport still - it is just stupid that no footballer has ever come out - the law of averages says that there must be many gay men in the premier league. It would be very surprising if every club doesn't have at least one gay footballer.
