How many people out there on 05:21 - Jul 14 with 4494 views | DesertBoot | Can only think Messi received the Golden Boot so sponsors got to meet him after the game. He wasn't even the best player in the Argentina team. Laughable.
| Wish I could be like David Watts |

"Great player, great man." No hyperbole there then? A very very good player, probably the best of the past 4-5 years in his playing position, certainly. Not quite Pele yet though. As for great man, not sure quite what he has done for that acolade. Brought world peace? Resolved hunger? Created a cure for disease? No, he is a footballer who is paid an obsence amount of money to play a game. Surem does a bit for charity to help out and hit the media profile, but a saint he isnt. Remember he is also being investigated for tax evasion as well, so potentially may be found to have not been paying his dues in Spain at a time of 25% unemployment. No, I think a very good and potentially a great footballer, but after that, just a man. A very rich one.

I disagree he's already better than Pele. He has played in an average Argentine side while Pele played in the best team ever. He's played at a far superior level in comparison to the pub teams Pele scored most of his club goals against. He does though have a long way to go to get near Maradona who also played in a very average national team and single handedly won the World Cup for them in 86 with the greatest pound for pound performance ever seen in a World Cup.. He also won 2 titles plus cups for a provincial average club in Napoli scoring almost 1 in 2 from midfield in the best defensive league on the planet He may not have been the role model that Messi is but he was the better all round player.

Pele, three times World Cup Winner and kicked out of 1966. Different times but still stood out in great teams. Not much between him and Maradona, same as not much between Messi and Ronaldo.
