We want you to have a say on the new stadium — draft survey published 16:32 - Apr 3 with 4743 viewsqpr1st

QPR 1st Supporters’ Trust has drawn up a first draft of a comprehensive survey to ask fans what they want to see in the club’s planned new stadium.

The Trust is asking for comments from supporters before the survey is finalised.

Trust chair Stephen Dedridge said: “If the club are to get the new stadium right, then it is vital that those who will be using it — the supporters — get a say on its design and facilities.”

“We have worked with Supporters’ Direct and supporter trusts of other clubs to find examples of surveys that have actually made a difference. The draft we are now publishing is based on the best examples we have found, and made relevant for QPR. We want to hear from supporters if they think the right questions are being asked, and if there are other issues they want to see covered.”

QPR1st wants the club to take up the survey and use it to make sure supporters have their say on the new stadium.

Last year QPR chief executive Philip Beard promised there would be consultation with supporters on the new stadium. Since then the club asked supporters to fill in on-line survey forms on how they travelled to the recent Wigan and Blackpool games at Loftus Road, but has yet to ask fans about the stadium itself.

Stephen Dedridge said “The club’s programme for the Blackpool game reminded us how things can go wrong. The move to a larger stadium in the 1960s resulted in plunging attendances because the stadium was just not right for the club and its supporters.”

“We don’t want that to be repeated,” he said.

A good example of supporters being surveyed was around proposals for a new stadium for Bristol City. Working with the supporters’ trust, the club surveyed supporters on a wide range of issues. The findings were shared with the architects for their proposed new stadium nearly a year before they published their design for the stadium. Supporters were surveyed again on the published designs.

It was a win-win situation; supporters could see their views had been considered and often taken up, and the club could see that involving supporters led to an increase in support for the project.

Supporters are asked to comment on the survey and its questions before it is finalised. Comments should be sent to info@QPR1st.com by 27 April.

Great work! Delighted someone has done this.

My initial thoughts:-

Q1) I'd split this into two questions:-

- To what extent do you support or oppose a move away from Loftus Road
- The club has announced plans to build a new stadium as part of a new development at Old Oak about 1.5 miles north of Loftus Road. To what extent do you support or oppose these plans (ie specifically the new stadium as proposed - my note?

Q2) Fifth option should read 45,000 or higher

Q16) Should be options for:-

- Along both sides
- In a band around all four sides

Q22) Needs more options, maybe:-

- fast food outlets
- childrens areas
- betting shops
etc

Q26) Tony Ingham and Daphne Biggs have to be options. The latter may seem like an unusual idea, but the new stadium is about conerstones, and she was one of ours.

Q32) Maybe five options, instead of three? Gives a broader viw of supporters' priorities.

Congrats. I think it's an excellent questionnaire.

I reckon I could take a pretty good guess from some of the the questions what the authors views are, but still, it is a very good job. I want to fill it in now!

Good idea and a good start too. Maybe this should be pinned (Northern?) and we can add to the points here over the coming weeks?

Edit: there should also be some attention made to people with disabilities, their experience currently and what they'd expect/need and what they'd want from access too/from their car to their seat, the toilet, services etc.

Not to mention those who have new found bàstard food intolerances....

Legroom and a clear view from every seat is a priority, good value and fit for size catering facilities, and a brand new company providing the stewarding with extra training in common sense.

Its important to keep that close feel like LR and have that traditional style ground. Dortmund and White Heart Lane both looked nice when i have been to them.

Important that the stands are very steep and boxed in. I think there needs to be boxes and the other commercial shiit on site so the club can rake in some cash too.

Would not be adverse to a dome as well, that would be a bit different

These are all good too.

Call the home end 'the loft', and ensure there is a big enough lounge for any ex players that wish to attend games (then make them feel welcome)!

Love this stadium.... I remember watching one of the Euro games back In 2004 and thinking it would be perfect for QPR.
The only thing I would change are the corners of the stadium. I would replace the concrete with angled seating.

You could add seats in all four corners of the lower tier and then two corners of the upper tier behind one goal. At the other end put the big screen and the scoreboard in the corners. That would leave the upper tier behind that goal separated from the rest of the stadium and you could limit the away fans to that section. Keep them out of the way and minimise their impact on the game.

If the new place was anything like this, I would be abdolutely made up. Perfect example of adding additional seating without comprimising what LR is all about.

Fav stadium that I would like us to replicate: 35k would be fine.

You could close the top tier off when not required which still would create an atmosphere.

Of all the stadium-porn that gets posted on here, this one's my favourite. Add in Nadera's exceelent idea re the corners and we're laughing. You just know the place would be rocking. It's built for acoustics.

I'd worry seriously about Juve's ground as a template. The first looks far too high and I think that the roof doesn't come forward enough. Can't be sure from pictures but it looks like a typical warm-weather stadium. I'd really worry about it turing into an Emirates library.

Apart from the novelty of visiting when it's built and taking my son on occasions, I couldnt see myself being a regular if we moved into a stadium like the Emirates, or any stadium designed and built with corporate thinking placed anywhere close to football reasons. At every single stage of design, development and completion, they should be stopping and asking how a general season ticket holder would feel and what they would want.

It needs to be a football stadium first
Money making facility second.

They have the opportunity to get this so right, I really hope they do. We have had a change in ownership, badge, numerous playing staff and management. There is nothing except Loftus Road that has been a constant to define us and seperate us from everywhere else. It's the one thing we can all be proud of lined up against the modern shite and corporate pits through the leagues. Just ask Juan Mata :-D

I would defnitely help, true.

It all looks a bit airy to me. Boavista look more like Loftus Road - overlapping tiers, overhanging roofs, that kind of thing.

Maybe it's an illusory thing, too.

Thanks for mentioning that - it was the first thing I noticed that did not get a mention.

One would hope that with the very strong QPR in the Community work already going on within the club and the Tiger Cubs Team that the owners would be talking seriously about ensuring that a section of the ground goes further than just complying with the Disabilities Discrimination Act requirements, but allows a section to be a safe and welcoming environment for those children and adults with special needs in the local community who would benefit from the match day experience.

Assume you want it smaller? Shall we build it for 19k then?

I can name 10 clubs who have built bigger stadiums and now have bigger crowds. Brentford and Bristol Rovers are both building stadiums to hold 20k.

IMO, if in the Prem we would average 28k with a larger stadium. For most London derbies plus the likes of Utd, City, Everton, Liverpool...you'd probably sell out.

I was talking with a colleague last night who is working on the stadium. It would be unfair on him if I was to divulge too much of what was discussed but he said that Mark Donnelly who is leading the project for QPR is very keen to keep the fans onside, he (MD) appreciates that the move will be a big moment for the club and wants the fans to feel part of it, surveys should be out soon & a couple of surveys about travel have already gone out. He also wants the new stadium to have a good atmospehere and that they're considering a single tier 'kop end' to help with this.
