Michael Obafemi and Jamie Paterson are nearing the Swansea City exit door as Burnley and Coventry City now seem prepared to make their interest more concrete over the coming days. Both won’t appear for the swans this weekend. Morgan Whittaker will also not be selected based outside interest in his services this week.
Whittaker could also leave the swans over the coming weeks after a derisory bid was received by the club two days ago. However, with interest in him being generated and the fact he has played for Plymouth this season means any swans selection would most certainly jeopardise a move for him. If he played tomorrow at Sunderland for example he wouldn’t be able to play for another club this season. Two clubs is the maximum.
He could play for the swans and still leave for pastures new but he could only register for his new club, not play. Unfortunately in Obafemi and Paterson’s case their behaviour over the past year has affected the well being of the club despite what boss Russell Martin states. They may well be ‘good blokes’ and all that but they are paid well to play for Swansea not sit on their backsides complaining about their pay or not being allowed to leave for another club for a pittance. Had both been as professional as Ryan Manning for example who continues to play at the top of his game despite contractual issues then Swansea City would be in a far more healthier league position.
It isn’t all down to Russell Martin, these two have disrespected the clubs shirt and for us here at Swansea Independent we hope the pair of them never play for the club again. Good riddance to the pair of them, and whatever club they go to they deserve each other. If they were managers the support would be screaming down their necks to get out of the club.
Compare those mercenary attitudes to that of Liam Cullen, Ollie Cooper, Brandon Cooper, Ben Cabango or Steve Benda as examples, there are others. All players who have come through the Swansea system to one extent or another, all players who are grateful and work hard continuously to improve themselves, players more loyal to the club ? All have local ties or have grown to love the area, and recognise the two way street they are on in their own development, yes a two way street. Give and take, not just take and moan. We could easily include Jay Fulton here and Matt Grimes as well. Jay especially when it looked like his time was up and bids came in for him last January just knuckled down, got his head on straight and look where he is now.
The club in the main has many grateful, happy and hard working players, people who obviously recognise the worth the club has given to their lives. And there’s always a few bad apples, as we said good blokes and a laugh they may be, but it’s their behaviour that means they are not playing, and it’s their attitude that means the swans are under strength game to game. And that is unforgivable, good blokes ? Don’t make us laugh.
Selfish, self interested individuals who care nothing for their standing in a community, just where they stand in the queue for more. As we said good riddance and good riddance as soon as possible please.
