Swans Complain Of FA's Chelsea Bias

Swansea City are being reported as having complained to the FA over the decision to block their deal for Colombian international Rafael Borre but let Chelsea push through a deal for Bertrand Traore.

The Sun reports that Swans Chairman Huw Jenkins is furious that the £4m deal for the Deportivo Cali attacker was blocked by the FA who refused to grant a work permit.

The Swans believe that the player ticks far more boxes than Trarore who was granted permission controversially to play in the country.

Borre is uncapped for he senior side (although he has been called up for the senior team) and his was the first case to come up after FA Chairman Greg Dyke toughened the rules to try and protect the young talent in this country.

The new requirements state that non-EEA (European Economic Area) players will have to meet a minimum percentage of international matches played for their country over the previous 24 month period, as determined by that country’s FIFA world ranking.

The Swans were angered after Trarore's case was referred to the newly formed exceptions panel which put Traoré through a grading system which takes into account, among other things, a player’s value, his wage and the league he has been playing in. The three-man panel deemed the Burkinabé had scored enough points, and that Chelsea had demonstrated their commitment to the player, to warrant the award of a permit.

The Swans were keen to bring in Borre and loan him out to get him first team experience but those hopes look to be scuppered with Cali now talking to Villareal about a deal for the player.

Of course it is no major surprise that there is talk of bias towards the big clubs - it was something we were warned about before we first arrived in the Premier League and it certainly always does look as if things are looked at more favourably for some teams rather than others?
