Trabzonspor Once Again Trying To Get A Southampton Player On The Cheap
Thursday, 30th Jan 2025 10:46

Back in the summer we had the ongoing transfer saga with Turkish club Trabzonspor trying to get Tall Paul Onuachu on the cheap, Saints weren't willing to virtually give the player to the Turks, but now they are back with a different target, but same derisory offer.

sportwitness.co.uk are claiming that Turkish media sources are saying that Trabzonspor are in talks with Saints to sign Kamaldeen Sulemana.

We of course had dealings with Trabzonspor back in the summer, when they were on the verge of signing Paul Onuachu on a weekly basis for about 2 months.

Back then there did not seem to be a reasonable offer to buy him put on the table, they seemed to be hoping to wear us down, so they could get him on loan, they did not seem to have the money for even a reasonable transfer fee in the region of £8-10 million or to pay his wages,

Now it seems history is repeating itself, Trabzonspor have been told, as have most clubs that Southampton are not interested in letting the player out on loan, but they would perhaps consider a permanent deal with a starting price of £8 million.

This hasn't deterred the Super Lig club, who at time of writing sit in 10th place on 25 points, 9 points behind our sister club Goztepe on 34 points in 5th, who have slammed a loan deal proposal on the table, which has been instantly rejected by Saints.

However, reports say Trabzonspor are not giving up on signing Sulemana and are likely to make another attempt. Turkish Super Lig sides have until February 11th to get transfer business concluded, one week after the Premier League window closes, so they have a little time.

Truth is though if Sport Republic are going to consider a loan deal to Turkey, then they are more likely to sent Sulemana to Goztepe, who have a great chance of getting into Europe next season, although they are 20 points behind Galatasaray in pole position and 14 points behind Fenerbahce in 2nd, they are only 6 points off of 3rd and 2 off 4th.

If I was Southampton, I would be happy to save on Sulemana's wages and get a loan fee with Goztepe for the rest of the season, there is little to play for now in the Premier League.

IF ...anyone wants a product they must pay the price. We may have made mistakes in signing Onuachu in the first place (our fault) but there is no way we should give into this sort of bargaining, and if we have any suitable offer from elsewhere we should take that and not give in to this sort of crude blackmail. Onuachu may be a square peg in a round hole (with Saints), but I'm fairly sure that he will be back scoring goals in another club.

The player is an investment but if Sport Republic want to get any profit from a deal, they might consider a loan to Götzepe who seem to be better-placed in the Turkish League.

Er no, we should keep Sulemana at least until the summer (and hopefully beyond). When will the incompetent management buy us a decent centre forward. Farcical approach to running our club.
