Ramazani signs for Leeds as the influx begins
Thursday, 22nd Aug 2024 21:22 by Tim Whelan

Today Leeds completed completed the signing of Belgian under-21 international Largie Ramazani from Spanish side Almeria though he won’t be able to face Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow night as the move is still subject to a work permit.

The 23-year-old is a right footed player who can play on either wing or as a centre-forward. So although he mainly operated on the left last season, he could step in for either Gnonto or James as needs be. He has signed a four year contract and the fee is around £10million, though Almeria would be entitled of 15% of any profit we might make by selling hm on.

Though Ramazani has already been through quite a number of clubs even at this relatively early stage of his career. He started out with Anderlecht in his native Belgium, but moved on to Charlton Athletic when he was still only 12 years old. Then unfortunately he joined Manchester United as a teenager, before heading to Spain to play for Almeria.

In total he played 117 games for the Spanish club, 62 of which were in La Liga, though the club were relegated last season. He scored 18 goals in his time there, but was known more for his ‘assists’, three of which came in a 3-3 draw against Granada. I’m told he is lightning fast, but also a bit of a hot-head, as having been sent off twice last season.

He might not be the equal of Summerville, but he sounds like a useful addition to the squad, even though he might not be the first choice for either of the wide positions initially. And much better value than re-signing Jack Clarke, for whom Sunderland were asking £25m, and who is now likely to go to Ipswich.

The media is awash with stories about several other players we’re said to be chasing, so doubt there will be plenty more to report next week.
