Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has today become the new manager of Northampton Town.

Former Leeds United striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has today been unveiled as the new manager of Northampton Town.

The Cobblers, who have not yet earned a single point thus far this season, dismissed previous manager Justin Edinburgh last week following four successive league defeats.

Edinburgh was originally appointed by the Northampton board in January, only days after the Basildon-born manager had been relieved of his managerial responsibilities by divisional rivals Gillingham. He departed Sixfields with a paltry win ratio of 24%.

Hasselbaink, who made 69 league appearances for Leeds and scored 34 goals for the Whites between 1997 and 1999, will now enter his fourth managerial role, after his acrimonious sacking as manager of Queens Park Rangers in November 2016.

Hasselbaink is no stranger to League One, having notably guided Burton Albion to the summit of the division in the 2015-16 before leaving for Loftus Road. The Surinamese has additional prior experience with Royal Antwerp, and will be hopeful of steering Northampton out of their current predicament.
