Former Leeds United academy prospect Ben Gordon has acceded to a deal that will see the player sport the colours of Gainsborough Trinity for the foreseeable future. Gordon, 26, began his career at Elland Road in 2005, featuring in United's youth team in addition to representing England at both the Under-16 and Under-17 levels before being headhunted by Chelsea in 2007. The Stamford Bridge club were able to secure his signature after agreeing a compensation settlement with Leeds. Throughout the period in which he was contracted to the Blues, Gordon was farmed out on loan to no less than five different clubs - Tranmere Rovers, Kilmarnock, Scunthorpe United, Peterborough United and Birmingham City. He departed Chelsea in the summer of 2013 upon the expiration of his contract. Since then, the player has turned out for Yeovil Town, Ross County, Colchester United, Chester, Bradford Park Avenue, Woking and Boston United. He made 21 appearances for Boston in the National League North last season, scoring once. Having been released by the Pilgrims upon the conclusion of the 2016-17 season, the move to Gainsborough, who finished 19th in the National League North in the previous campaign, represents an opportunity for Gordon to play regular first-team football again.
