Leeds United Loan Watch: Misery for Murphy's Burton, delight for McKay Saturday, 14th Jan 2017 20:07 by Lucas Monk Leeds United loanees Luke Murphy and Jack McKay were both in action for their temporary clubs Burton Albion and Airdrieonians on Saturday afternoon. Murphy, 27, who made 111 appearances for United prior to linking up with the Brewers earlier in the month, started in central midfield as Burton succumbed to an unpropitious 2-0 home defeat at the hands of relegation rivals Wigan Athletic. An unprecedented brace on the part of left-back Callum Connolly, on loan with the Latics from Premier League Everton, proved decisive as Nigel Clough's side now find themselves perilously close to the bottom three after managing a solitary win in their last seven matches. The other Leeds loanee to experience first-team football on the day was striker Jack McKay, who came on as a substitute for Aidrieonians in their match against in-form East Fife at the Excelsior Stadium with his provisional club trailing 2-1. With merely a minute of normal time to play, McKay cut a selfless ball across the penalty area that was rattled into the back of the net at the near post by Jack Leitch as Airdrie accrued their first point of the season to draw level on points with second-placed Alloa Athletic in the Ladbrokes League One table. Murphy's Burton will now go back to the drawing board ahead of a potentially onerous trip to Cardiff City next Sunday, while McKay's Diamonds prepare to take on Stenhousemuir on the 28th of the month in their next league fixture.
