Bye Sam! Destroyed by Cellino or just another greedy footballer? Friday, 15th Jan 2016 13:01 Sam Byram's future was still very much up in the air on Friday lunchtime with head coach Steve Evans claiming he could still be involved at Hillsborough tomorrow! However it is likely he's pulled on a Leeds shirt for the very last time, but how will he be remembered? According to Evans, if Byram's future isn't decided today then it will be up to President Massimo Cellino whether or not he takes part in the crunch lunchtime showdown at Hillsborough tomorrow. Byram is believed to be locked-in-talks with Everton over a £3.7m switch to Merseyside. Both clubs have reported they have agreed a deal but now it rests with the player agreeing personal terms and passing a medical. However there is rumoured to be late interest coming from Premiership rivals West Ham and Newcastle. Personally I think we've seen the last of him in a Leeds shirt and with a heavy-heart its time to let him move on. But where does the blame for this scenario lie? It's it at Cellino's door or has the player become too big for his boots? Whatever your views, the whole thing has been handled atrociously. I know we unofficial sites and fans generally crave salacious tit-bits and big juicy ones at that, but the whole thing should have been conducted "behind closed doors". Cellino's decision to go public on the fractured negotiations was a horrendous decision. At best he was naive to think Byram would take a pay cut, however it has to also be said that only rarely has Byram showed this season he is worth the £12,000 a week we are reportedly paying him now. I'm sorry but I don't hold with all this "head turned" nonsense; or "clearly he's been effected by doubts over his future" bullshit. Fine, if god forbid he was nursing career-threatening injuries like one of his Academy predecessors Ben Parker did then ok. However he's a young lad with the best years of his career ahead of him. It's not as if he's a steelworker from up the road in Teeside or someone with a small business in flood-hit Yorkshire wondering when he or she can go back to work again. Despite this, I'm puttIng this one down to yet another rush of blood to the head from Massimo. It's another crazy and costly decision and Everton or whoever are getting Sam for half his true market value. Alas I fear after several years of bucking the trend in keeping hold of our admittedly scant few "better" players, the floodgates shall now open and we'll lose Messers Cook, Mowatt and Taylor sooner rather than later.
