Stop telling the players that they are the best in the division. Stop saying you've got the best squad. If you keep telling them they are the best in the division, they'll get lazy and start believeing the hype. They need the Full Metal Jacket treatment (and if you've never seen this film you really won't know what I'm on about!). Line them up, get an hardened Drill Instructor in and give them a damn good dressing down!. COMPLACENCY IS EVIL!. |

Our team is a long way from being the best in the division as today proved. There's a long way to go for that hype to come true, even if BF can pull it off, which is debatable!! |

That's one of my main reasons for not having a lot of patience/respect for the man. He treats us fans as imbeciles - why else would he say before the Oxford game "But is their squad the best in the division? No. I would have to say mine is." It is patently obvious that there are (at least) four teams with stronger squads than ours, and by the time that the season finishes that could read seven or eight. He consistently comes up with the statement (not verbatim) that "on our day we can beat any team in this division". What a statement ! Anybody can say that - it means nothing in terms of winning promotion - on their day, any team from Carlisle upwards is capable of beating anybody else in the division. I also try to catch all his post-match press conferences, and I have lost count of the number of times this season that he has stated that "we will not play that badly again". His statements are becoming worryingly more "hollinesque". |

I think they need a good roasting. We also need to bring at least 3-4 players in as there is too little competition for places. e.g Maylett knows he's in the team unless he's injured, as does Britton and Trundle and Izzy etc. A number of players (not naming names) are out on the lash in Swansea all the time, knowing that as long as they are not physically incapacitated they are in the 1st 11 on Saturday. We need to shake things up a bit. |

Another of his is 'we will be there or thereabouts'. Hate to worry him and all that BUT I don't think we will be anywhere about's there come the end of season! I agree, he is hugely disrespectful to fans, who are, after all, his bread and butter! |

I really wouldn't use the term 'roasting' with regard to footballers ;-) But agree that a few more players are a necessity now, as you say places at the moment are practically guaranteed. I believe that they all need extra practice in 'passing the ball to the other guys in White!!' before the next game imo. --- Post edited by Trundshair on 10/1 21:34 --- |

Heard it myself before he arrived down here, apparently it took him months to arrange a meeting with some of our fans last season. The man thinks he's a god! It seems we have news for him on that score;-) |

But his after match interviews are a bit of state the obvious. "We must bounce back from this" "We've had a lot of injuries this season and have done well to be where we are" "We have to look at the positives" And so on. |

Overall, I have been a backer of Flynn, but obviously I back Swansa more than any given manager, and the most annoying thing is (and this goes for most managers) is the lack of any respect for the footballing knowledge of fans. It's as if the important stuff is done behind closed doors, and then when in public say sugary, PG rated, whimsical, bloody obvious things to placate the fans!. Why can't managers come out in public and admit what is wrong, and then tell us how it can be put right, and not just say stuff like 'let's not lose 2 in a row', and 'we have the best squad in the division' - I'm not 9 years old Flynn!, you can talk to us on an adult level about what is happening at the club! |

I think it's obvious that I'm no great fan of Flynn's, but I certainly do not feel that now is the time to cause too many ripples. Our season is nowhere near finished (I'm talking League, the FA Cup is a fleeting diversion), but it desperately needs some positive action to prevent it from quickly falling into mid-table obscurity. My own view, and I know that many disagree with me, is that our season started to go downhill (and has steadily increased its rate of decline) since we lost Martinez, and we did not properly address his loss in September. I also feel that our great start glossed over other shortcomings that we have, and the club/board/manager failed to build on the great start, in terms of attendances, that we made, by not investing in the strengthening of the playing staff at that time. The result was a drop in attendances, which has recently been reversed, but which will now almost certainly drop again, particularly once the novelty of the FA Cup has passed. We are fast approaching a critical point in establishing whether our season is to finish in any sort of promotion/play-off challenge, or wither into mid-table obscurity. No one can say that the fans have not played their part in coming through the turnstiles. |

And you have been saying that for most of the season Stu. By the way, is that in the dictionary ( Hollinesque) or something like that? Also throughout the season we have not had a back four that is stable, games are won through from the defense and I fear that the fact ours has not been established enough will not go well for us. As I mentioned in a previous post with the loss of Jenkins-Tate, and soon Duffy, we have Howard and Hylton injured so our lack of strength from the back is not giving the rest of the team confidence. |

What a fookin shocker!! Got to be the worst performance of the season, by miles. Don't really know what to say, don't want to sound negative and get everyone down - but we really were s t!!! Only good thing was Martinez coming on, but the day was well and truly over by then anyway. Sending off seemed harsh from where I was standing (and we know Duffy's not a dirty player) so will have to view that again tomorrow. I hope this is just a blip boys (and girls!) cos we're going nowhere fast if we carry on like that. Everyone's back fit now virtually so something needs to be done to get the best out of the players again cos they didn't look interested out there today I tell thee!! |

It's got to be! We know what they're capable of and we keep telling everyone how good we are/were but today was just frustrating seeing us play like that. Confidence must be ok as we're in the FA Cup with a chance of progressing and we were 7th in league. (What are we now??) |

Well, we have these games sometimes, and usually it gives us a kick up the ar$£. I especially hate traveling away to watch us roll over and die on the pitch, its humiliating leaving the ground with opposing fans geering. Worst for me this season was the Yeovil game away, we totally wern't there to play football, and it made us look stupid on here as we'd been bragging our team up for weeks. I still maintain, when both above mentioned teams are playing their best football, we're the better team. Difference is their motivated and utilise tactics, which keeps them consistent in the top 6 of the division, where we just rely on our class - which in this division, is not enough. We usually bounce back, lets hope for a backlash next week! BTW, Next weeks game is going to be hard ! We're the team everyone wants to beat at the moment! |

Why on earth should they NEED motivating to beat a Bury side that had lost the previous eight ? We were clearly not at the races today as having listened to the game on SS it was quite obvious that there seemed to be little effort or attempt to stem a Bury side that just simply seemed to attack constantly. I can't comment on why the team selection was as it was - perhaps Hylton is injured as well as Maylett? - but even then there should have been more effort. It was clearly a shadow ( effort wise) of the team that gave boring Oxford a good go on Tuesday and it was patently obvious as well to anyone listening ( God help the Jacks watching ) that we were heading for a defeat. I can hardly remember a time when the commentator suggested that we were getting near to scoring ( Robbo's effort apart) It's been made doubly worse by everyone else winning.....something we will have to start doing home AND away very soon. I still remain of the view that we will go up automatically because there is a long way to go and others will falter too. However we cannot surely afford onother lack lustre display like this? It's about time WE went at teams when away - generally home sides don't expect it. The softly softly approach is not working. Teams come at us at the Vetch......let's do it to someone ourselves. As for Duffy - well we seemed lost anyway by that time, but his rashness cost us what little opportunity we had of clawing a draw. He's not a dirty player, but it was commented last week that perhaps he needs to curb his temper. Put it down to youthful rashness.......unfortunately it'll cost us his services at a time when we can least afford to lose them. At least no one else got booked as far as I know......given that a good few are close to the one game suspension mark No more like this one please boys !! |

Agree about 'We're the team to beat at the moment' Trundle was totally out of the game today and it was no surprise when JT came on. Not slagging him off or anything but his well publicised success means all oppositions will be on to him like that today (and the Ox game), tho I didn't expect Bury's defence to do a job on him like they did so credit to them. Trunds didn't get many opportunities today - sorry, that should be 'any opportunities' |

Oxford, Tuesday night, 7:30pm, you were walking with a load of Port Tennant wannabe thugs, down Argyle street, from where the chippy is towards County Hall. You tell me if it was you. Were you, or were you not at the above location between the hours of 7:15 and 7:45? |

He looked realy frustrated against Oxford. Thats two games played where he hasn't scored, and he was subbed off. Lets hope he doesn't lose confidence - it does happen to the cockiest of players, and this is usually how it begins! Lets hope not, if everyone else puts the effort in we should still set him up for goals. And if teams are to place three defenders on him, then lets use him as a decoy and create space for someone else (not necessarily a striker). What was Connolly like today anyway? Didn't sound like he made much impact? Martinez was quiet too - although, its early days yet! |

To be honest mate, apart from a couple of shots in the first half from Robbo and 1 in the 2nd (from Robbo) which the keeper tipped over well, I can't remember us having another chance/shot at goal, so Konn can't of played that well, but no one did! Even Rog - everytime he had the ball he either kicked it straight back to them or kicked it in the street, it was weird, just one of those days me thinks! Not taking anything away from Bury tho, they outplayed us today. |

You ask why you need motivating to beat a side that's lost the previous 8. ain't that just the point - that when you take any side for granted they will take advantage of your arrogance. I say this coz it's usually our trick - wins against big sides then lose against teams we can't lose against. Anyway. i thought we were bloody marvellous. UP THE SHAKERS! |
