Granted, the forward signings have been less than good, but Nardi, Varane, Morgan and Morrison have been excellent signings. To be fair, I don’t think many of the signings were brought in to start games, largely they’re here to give us a better bench, they’re young and would have slowly been introduced to the first team. I’d say only Nardi, Dembele and possibly Madsen were brought in to start. Sadly we were quickly decimated by injuries to first team regulars and they’ve all had to play far sooner than intended. We’ve had a successful first half of 2024 under this regime and a poor second half although that has presently improved. It’ll be interesting to see if the club fall back on the recent improvement as a cushion for the rest of the season, which might easily backfire, or try to do something about CF in Jan and be better set up for the start of next season. Now is not really the time to be pulling against the existing club structure. |

For the first time since I can remember, we have a bench that no longer terrifies me. Nourry’s job is not putting out an 11 man team, that’s the managers job, it’s about assembling a squad and he is a long way further doing that than the previous DOF managed in eight very long years. Leave the bloke alone. |

Is he actually ours? Great signing if he is. Got everything to be a top player. |

Yet another fixture against the fun sponge that is Preston North End. Guaranteed to poop on any party and this one only a few days before Xmas. Sometimes I have dreams that we get relegated just to avoid them for a season but I dare say, when it happens, they’ll probably take the drop alongside us. I shall drink myself into oblivion beforehand to numb myself from the inevitable 0-0/0-something borefest they’ll undoubtedly inflict upon us. |

In essence then, 5 players the club don’t mind running down their contracts and four they’d like to hand out new contracts. Of those four, only one likely to pull in a significant fee. Feels like Chair will just run down his contract and leave for free. Once again, I’m not convinced this develop and sell policy is a viable platform to build a successful football team. Its a once every 25 years kick start (Marsh/Les/Eze) and I’m not sure too many of us can wait for the next one in 2045. |

CS Lewis.. "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be "cured" against one's will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals’’ These are sinister times. |

Assumed it would be for acting improper in front of his own goalposts. |

I’ve been trying to imagine what kind of collective mood we’d have been in if the first half v Oxford and the first half v Bristol were both amalgamated into one full 90 minutes. Its astonishing that this kind of tosh sees us with more points than games played and six teams below us. |

Wolves are in a real state but it’s concerning that it’s only them that stands between the promoted three coming straight back down for the second consecutive season. This Championship is probably the worst I have seen it and it’s hard to see where that can change. |

I predict bodies all over the pitch and about 25 minutes added time. tfl.gov.uk/plan-a-journey |

In Ashby’s defence, the two best passes made this season were both by him to Celar in the Cardiff and Watford games. I have a fair bit of sympathy for him. Came here as a RB stand by for Jimmy and found himself in a LB position that really is not his natural calling and clearly, it shows. Personally think he might be best suited to a right sided centre mid roll, in a three, so that won’t be here given how we set up. |
| Forum Reply | QPR v Bristol City match thread at 16:21 14 Dec 2024
Ashby had a couple of aberrations second half but aside from that, thought the entire back four and the two centre mids were excellent. Perhaps Field was less involved as Varane seemed to intercept practically everything that came through the centre. Smyth even beyond the goal was very good in front of Dunne. In games like these you need a no 9 and no 10 to occupy the opposition on the rare occasions the ball gets forward, that didn’t happen with Andersen and Kolli. Saito also had an indifferent day. In the heat of the game, we are ineffective in the oppo half, or at least until they tire. Basically the back 6 need more from the front four. |

Yeah, I’m never sure where his feet are going to take him and I’m not convinced he does either. Put in a sterling effort today though, which we really needed. |
