| News Comment | Is It One Rule For Players And One For Referee's at 11:48:26
I think it's pretty logical to think that Clattenburg may indeed have some kind of agenda that doesn't favour us given that three of the last four games he's refereed us have been: Everton (a) - Denied 2 saints penalties, 1 definitely clear cut. Arsenal (a) - Gave Arsenal penalty for Fonte shirt tug at corner. Really soft, every corner would result in a penalty if all refs gave these. Norwich (a) '12/13 - Gave Norwich penalty in last minute when Holt decided to back into Shaw and fall over rather than play the ball that was 5 yards away running away from goal. |
| News Comment | Can Saints Now Target 10th Place ? at 12:55:38
Derbydog - I work in that industry. Best available price on a Saints top 10 pre-season was 10/1 (with Norwich & Swansea only falling GD short of this last season), I know because I backed it. We did drift as far as 66/1 after losing to West Brom to go 10 matches in with only 4 points, so maybe you have your timeline a little confused. Either way, good luck with the bet ;-) Nick - Good article at a good time. I agree that you're spot on with those figures, 48 is the lowest total I can see 10th place getting, so we'd need at least 3 wins and 2 draws from these last 6 games. We cannot afford to lose any of the next 3 in particular due to them being against direct rivals for the 8th-10th spots. All - One particular upside of the final day of the season is that Swansea play hosts to Fulham. With these sides being the most likely to be 9th/10th at the time, there is a possible scenario whereby if we are still 11th, and they are not both 2+pts (or either of them 3+pts) ahead of us we could know that a win against Stoke would get us there regardless of other results. Buckle up gents, it's going to be tight (from 8th all the way down to 18th)!! |

"5 points out of the new managers first 5 games in charge are exactly the same points average as we had when he arrived" Let's just ignore the fact that Nigel didn't have 60% of his games away from home, or against teams currently averaging 44 league points then shall we?! |

| News Comment | Saints At Millwall The Verdict at 17:33:50
Hate to say it, but I've always thought that there's not much between them although they have totally different strengths. Fox's is pushing forward with creative runs, passing and crossing, but on the down side he defends way too narrow at LB and occasionally gets caught out positionally in defence. Harding on the other hand is less likely to get caught out of position because he doesn't have the same level of creativity going forward. Just my opinion. Looking forward... If Lallana is still out on Tuesday, and the CB situation is sorted (Collins or Fonte returning to partner Martin), I'd have Fox playing LM in front of Harding at LB. As we've seen a few times before though there's many permutations out there. Lat |

rjh - Out of Lambert's 63 goals for us, 22 have been PK's and I don't remember him missing any. Could find out how many more he's scored previous to his move easy enough, but not misses. Anyone else know a quick way of finding out his career pens record? Lat |
| News Comment | Four Games That Shape The Season at 21:22:18
Given that these are supposed to be the harder fixtures based on the argument that we've had the easy ones so far, i think it is unreasonable to say 6 or 7 points would be a disastrous return. Yes, we need 2pts per game over the season as a whole to 'guarantee' promotion, but that will mean we should get something like averaging 2.3ppg against the bottom 6, 2.1ppg against teams 13th-18th, 1.9ppg against teams 7th-12th, and 1.65ppg against the other teams in the top 6. As long as we're still on 2 or more ppg after these fixtures (requires 6+ from the next 4) I reckon we'll still be in contention. Ideally we'd like more, but we can't expect that it's gotta be 2ppg against every group of 4 or 5 fixtures. Some will be harder, some will be easier. Lat |
