| Forum Thread | Support the club through the club shop at 11:47 28 Mar 2020
I wondered what people thought about trying to encourage Dale fans to support the club at this time by ordering items from the club shop? I think it's still open for online orders. Even if it's just buying one of the cheaper items, every little helps, I suppose. Apologies if this has been picked up in another thread already, but just wanted to float it as an idea. There might even be potential for encouraging fans of other teams to do the same for their clubs. |
| Forum Thread | Fans to vote for MOTM at 09:46 11 Sep 2012
http://www.rochdaleafc.co.uk/news/article/motm-texting-362718.aspx I think this is quite a good idea. Bit of an extra money spinner for the club too. I was a guest of the match sponsor against Burton (I have a season ticket in the Sandy but I'm not turning down a free 3 course meal, free bar and a comfy seat!) and was asked to pick the MOTM as one of the only regular Dale fans in the box. Picked Lillis for his excellent save from the corner in the first half and also for a number of other good stops. If I'm honest there wasn't much competition on Saturday. I think letting fans text in their vote for MOTM will make the award a bit more meaningful. Most of the guys in our box enjoyed the day but didn't really know the players so wouldn't be in the best position to judge. That's why we usually end up with the goal scorer being MOTM. Interestingly, I was asked at about 75 minutes who was the MOTM. |
| Forum Thread | Season ticket arrival? at 10:12 28 May 2012
Quick question: when do season tickets arrive? I know they are still doing the special promotion offers so I haven't been expecting to arrive but this is my first season ticket so just wondered if anyone knew when they usually arrive? Cheers. |
| Forum Thread | Show Support for Darlington Fans' Bid? at 12:48 9 Feb 2012
I'm sure many of you will have seen news of an attempt by some Darlington fans to look into making a fans' bid to take over their club. Darlington Supports United - http://www.darlosupportersunited.com/ - are looking at raising £250k to take over the club and run it as a co-op. That's a long way off though and at this stage they are just investigating the possibility of fan ownership. My question is, would Dale fans and the Dale Supporters Trust be willing to make a contribution if they go down the fan ownership route? I know we are a small club and whilst the Supporters Trust has some money, it clearly isn't mega-bucks, but a small contribution would be symbolic and could lead to more supporters groups doing the same. My personal view is that Darlington has been messed about by a series of megalomaniac owners who have brought a historic club to its knees. There is now a chance that the fans could take over the club if they could raise the cash and that as fellow football fans, with many of us concerned about club ownership in the game, we ought to stand with the Darlington fans and offer our support. I for one want to see the money that has been raised by our Trust go on progressing our club. However, given that we don't look likely to be needing the majority of our cash any time soon, would it not be a fantastic gesture to show some solidarity with other loyal fans by making a small contribution to their efforts at saving their club? The Darlo fans' efforts might not come to anything and therefore our offer of cash would not be needed, but if there is a chance that they could save their club and we can help in some small in that, I think we should. My idea would be to offer £500 or £1000. Discuss. |
| Forum Thread | Harry Bunn et al at 13:30 19 Dec 2011
What happens with Harry Bunn, David Ball and Benali? They're all here because of Eyre and with Harry being Frankie's son I can't see him wanting to stay. Not sure if City will want Benali training with Dale rather than the City squads now Eyre isn't here. Ball is only here because of Eyre as well. |
| Forum Thread | New Contract Offered to COG at 10:27 29 Jul 2011
Forgive me if this has been posted somewhere else (haven't seen it though), but at last night's Fans' Forum Andrew Kelly announced that COG had been offered a new contract at the club. Pretty big news. |
| Forum Thread | COG Thread Minus Wildlife at 19:50 12 Jul 2011
Right, I was going to add this to the other thread about O'Grady but it seems to have decended into name calling which, whilst entertaining, is pointless. Just spoken with someone who's husband is high up in the club and from what they know it looks like there have been several bids for O'Grady over the summer, including a £150,000 bid from Sheffield Wednesday. All approaches thus far have been dismissed. However, it is felt that O'Grady does have a price, possible somewhere above £300,000, which if reached would be too good to turn down as he only has one year left on his contract (I think that's right about the contract but feel free to shout at me if it's wrong). What was positive to hear was that the club aren't going to sell people just to pay bills as for the first time in a long time they actually have a nice bank balance to sit on. So in summary, yes offers are being made but the club is fighting them off so far. However, if an offer comes in that is seen as too good to refuse (£300,000-£400,000+) it is likely that they will allow him to go. |
| Forum Thread | Support Supporters Direct at 14:09 14 Jun 2011
I'm sure many of you will have seen/heard the news that Supporters Direct, the organisation that promotes and supports fan ownership in sports, is facing losing over £1 million of its funding. The Premier League is taking the money back after a tweets sent by Supporters Direct Dave Boyle following AFC Wimbledon's promotion to League 2. My concern isn't really about the rights and wrongs of the tweets but about the vindictive nature of the Premier League. Supporters Direct does amazing work with fans looking to get more involved in the running of their clubs and is an essential voice in the money-driven business-focus of modern day football. Moreover, Supporters Direct is an extension of the co-operative movement that we here in Rochdale should be incredibly proud of. Anyway, there's a campaign running for people to show their support for Supporters Direct and they are asking concerned fans to email their MPs calling on them to sign an Early Day Motion backing Supporters Direct. You can find your MP's email address by clicking http://findyourmp.parliament.uk/ Some suggested text for an email could be: Dear Mr Dobbin / Mr Danczuk (or whoever your MP is for our exiled friends), I am a committed Rochdale AFC supporter and I am worried about the future of Supporters Direct. Supporters Direct has helped set up hundreds of supporters' trusts up and down the country and has helped encourage the ordinary fan to get involved in the governance of their clubs. I am sure you will be aware of recent media reports of the Premier League's intention to withdraw funding to Supporters Direct. I was wondering whether you might be able to sign EDM 1909 and show your commitment to fan ownership. Thank you for taking the time to read this email. Yours sincerely, Always include your full name and postal address, otherwise they can ignore you if you don't confirm you are a constituent (I work for an MP outside of Rochdale so I deal with these email campaigns a lot!). Here is an article from the Guardian about the situation: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jun/13/supporters-direct-funding-labour Here's a Facebook group you can also join: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_162031167197147 Anyway, if you care about fan ownership or the state of football governance please lend your support to the campaign. Cheers. |
| Forum Thread | Yellow Card count at 11:24 5 Apr 2011
Just noticed that Dawson, Kennedy and Widdowson have all picked up 4 yellow cards so far. I think it's 5 and then a ban so one to keep an eye on. |
| Forum Thread | Swindon Delights at 12:44 1 Feb 2011
I lived in Swindon for about 2 years up until May this year so have a fair knowledge of the place. Anybody travelling down will enjoy the place and might even be pleasantly surprised. Travel - Driving down myself on the Friday and it is pretty straight forward down the M6 onto the M5 and then off at junction 11a for Cirencester and London. Don't come off the A419 at the North Swindon exit (that'll take you right through all the suburbs) come off instead at the Dorcan/South Marston exit. Follow signs for Dorcan and then the County Ground is signposted from Queens Drive (dual carriage way). You do get to go through the Magic Roundabouts which are quite fun - if you don't understand them then just treat it as one big roundabout and stick to going slowly round the outside. You need to head up the third exit that should be signposted and lined with over-hanging trees. Parking at the ground isn't that cheap but plenty of space, entrance at the County Pub. Alternatives are a lay-by on Queens Drive, a multi-story in the town centre or risking it on Tescos nearby. The side streets nearby are residents' parking but have a look for the few spaces that have longer waiting times. The train station is right in the town centre and makes for easy walking to a nearby Wetherspoons or Walkabout. The ground is about 10 minutes down the road and is signposted from the station I think - basically turn left out of the station, get to the traffic lights and turn right, turn left on Manchester Road and then right on County Road, ground is there. Food and Drink - there's pub at the ground but not sure on food and likelihood of grief. Best for food is either The Sun which you will see if you turn left rather than right on Queens Drive after you come into Swindon. Others are The Grove on Drove Road which is the road that goes up the hill from the Magic Roundabouts. If you go up that hill you'll find Wood Street that has bars, one club and several restaurants on it. Pizza Express up there as well. The other pub which is the normal away pub is The Merlin, again on Drove Road but closer to the ground - cheap beer and food (although there were rumours that they found rat droppings in the kitchen a few years ago, but if you've had a few it won't effect you). If anyone is staying the weekend then there's Lydiard Park in West Swindon - country house and grounds, STEAM railway museum, Outlet shopping centre and then there's the Cotswolds on the way back North. Anyway, look forward to seeing plenty of Dale fans down in Swindon. If you do get stuck on the Magic Roundabout then just remember that nobody else has a clue what to do either. |
| Forum Thread | January Transfer Window - clear-out? at 12:15 16 Nov 2010
From what I can see, there will be some loan players going back in January but who else will leave the club? Lillis - loan ends, although Scunthorpe have 4 other keepers so unless they loan him somewhere else he may come back. Grant - once his loan is confirmed he is here until middle of December, depends if he plays if he stays on longer. T Kennedy - given that Leicester didn't let him play in the FA Cup they'll take him back and possibly loan him out elsewhere or back to us. Josh Thompson - not appeared for a while and can't see Celtic letting him sit on the bench for much longer. The others that are not loaned but are on 6 month deals and could go are: Goddall - 6 month contract but out on loan at Newport, can't see how he comes back in unless Kennedy goes back to Leicester and Hill doesn't bring anyone in to cover Widdowson Done - again 6 month deal, has found chances hard to come by but when he does get a chance and some ball, he looks decent to me. I think it would be a real shame if he went as he does provide width and can cross. The rest of the squad are on 2 or even 3 year deals so it would be too expensive to let any go. That's not to say they should be let go but if Hill wanted to, realistically, who is going to offer money for them? So Elding, Akpa-Akpro, Joey Thompson will all be here still. Nicky Adams is having his deal made permenant in January as well. There were rumours that some clubs are in for Jason Kennedy? Thoughts? |
