Leaves us short of cover at right back but presumably explains why he tried Ashley there on Tuesday. |

Well that came out of left field. Watched the interview and he speaks well. "Minimum requirement is to run and tackle". Can't help but think that it's about time someone pointed that out to this underperforming squad. |

I'd take Ferguson. He has a track record of playing effective football and getting his side promoted (although he then usually gets them relegated again). Artell did very good things at Crewe initially, with young players and no budget. It rather fell apart after they got promoted though. Doubt very much we could afford Adkins or Hughton. And a hard no to McGreal. There's a lot of revisionist history about him. Just because his successors have been worse doesn't make him good. It won't be any of them of course. |

Burley, I think, was the last player-manager we had. Played 7 games. I have a vague recollection that Parky did actually register as a player in his first season in charge but didn't play any games. Wouldn't swear to it though. |

Quick trawl of tw@tter suggests that the Crawley fans are not best pleased with this. Seems they rather rate him. |

Had a quick butchers around the Workhorse website. They're based in Ipswich (and Brightlingsea) and seem to be heavily involved in a coaching organisation run by Mark Nicholls (remember him?). Nicholls was interim manager at FC Clacton until last year so that looks like the football connection. What odds on Nicholls as our next/future interim head coach? |

Unless I'm completely misremembering (and that's possible!) I think we can add Bobby Roberts and Cyril Lea to that list. |

It's always happened but there is more scrutiny and publicity now. There are also people out there putting a spin on it whilst knowing absolutely nothing in terms of facts. I can recall it happening a few times at Layer Road back in the day but I don't think the game ever stopped. My brother pitched over for no apparent reason at a game and the St John's Ambulance guys just got him out until he recovered. I vividly remember us having to evacuate T4 to sit behind the goal on another occasion because a spectator collapsed, I think he had a heart attack, but I don't think the game stopped. My first two doses had no adverse effect whatsoever. Booster knocked me out for about 18 hours but it wore off and I was fine. As others have said, get it done with confidence. |

Pretty sure I read an interview with him ages ago and he said he used to stand at Later Road when he was a kid. He's originally from Maldon if I remember correctly. I'd be happy with him although, to be fair, I'd be happy with Keith Harris if he kept us up. |

Jake Turner, 22 year old keeper from Newcastle on loan until January. Represented England at U18 and U19. Half a season at Morcambe last season. Reading between the lines this maybe implies that Gerken is knackered, he's barely featured in pre-season. |

I can only muster a passing interest in T20 so an even shorter format played with an entirely new set of laws and arbitrarily made up teams has no appeal whatsoever. I think it was envisaged that we would transfer our support to whatever side it is that plays at Lords, London Muppets or something, but they're not Essex so no interest there.I I get the impression that people who are actually interested in cricket are not the target audience of this which seems to make the whole exercise pointless. |

I don't think you have to look far beyond the Belgium/Italy QF for the eventual winners. |
