World of difference between playing first team games in a position that you've never played in before vs the one you've spent your entire development learning how to play. If we chucked Kyrell Wilson in the side and made him play central defence then the iffy performances that would no doubt result from that wouldn't be his fault either. We saw the same thing with Latibeaudiere being moved from a defensive role to a winger, or Whittaker & Ntcham being played out wide. Sometimes coaches try to be unnecessarily clever and the players themselves end up copping the blame for it. |
| Forum Reply | When will Russell Martin learn at 07:33 25 Nov 2024
If Russell Martin was capable of learning then he wouldn't be Russell Martin. Six years of management and he's still setting his defences up to fail. As to why people keep bringing him up, considering he wasted two years of our time, resources and a pretty good squad on trying to make himself rather than us look good, then had the temerity to try and blame someone else for it even after he'd left, personally I intend to revel in his every professional failure from here on in. Especially one as much fun as this. |

I believe that the people who own the George also own the Old Glais. Have had a carvery there and it was OK. Probably quite good for people more enthusiastic about Carveries than I am. |

Only Perchy. He's trying to phrase it in a way that gives him an out, but realistically, "asking if we can do better" is basically saying that he wants a new manager no matter how it's put. |

Has always looked better when he doesn't have to go around the outside. He plays on the left or not at all for me. |

It will never, ever cease to be amaze me how many people can't fathom simple things like players being played out of position. MPH is not a winger. Abdulai is not a winger. We have wingers at the club. Proper ones. For some reason the boss likes to hang midfielders out to dry on the wing instead. In any case, MPH has done quite well despite this in recent games, but struggled today. Obviously this makes him the worst player in the World. |

Barring a bizarre chain of events, it doesn't mean much. Starmer's got five years and a sizeable majority to do basically anything he wants. |

That's twice you've claimed that Abdulai replaced Franco. Problem is Abdulai came on nearly ten minutes after Franco went off. Abdulai replaced Ronald. Had Abdulai replaced Franco that might have made more sense, what with them both being midfielders. |

As many goals as Piroe scored for us, his performance today was reminiscent of loads of his for us. He looked completely lost for the most part. Very much a "moment of magic" type that you have to accept isn't going to be heavily involved all the time. |

An entertaining game overall. As a rule we moved the ball well and with some decent tempo against one of the better sides in the division. Whilst it would be something of a stretch to say we deserved to win, a point would not have flattered us. Alas we were undone by some untypically naive defending. Leeds have in abundance something we sorely lack in pure, natural pace, and we went to sleep a few too many times against a player like Dan James. Disappointed, but not massively so. Play like that against most other teams in the division and we won't go far wrong. |

Our front three was made to look worse than it is during that period, that's for sure. When you attack with the pace we do, with the lack of creativity at the tip of your midfield that we have, your forwards are going to struggle. By luck or judgement in the last few games we seem to have found a setup that works a little better. Hopefully LW will have learned from that and not be tempted to repeat the same mistakes of October when Cooper is fit again. |

I don't doubt that once LW's preference was obvious finances were a major factor in us sending them both elsewhere, but it's hard to imagine that when you factor in what we laid out replacing them we ended up all that far ahead. |

The previous lot "cut everything to the bone" because we were losing more than £10m a season. Clubs can't keep doing that and not run afoul of P&S. This is the kind of thinking that I'm worried about. Suddenly people seem to believe that we're on easy street and can start splashing the cash. |

Ultimately it was Williams' wish. He'd made it pretty clear that he (somehow) preferred Cullen to either Yates or Myk. If he'd wanted to keep either of them we would have. |

48 appearances for us last season with eight goals and six assists. Not bad for someone apparently inconsistent and only capable of 20-30 minutes a game. He would absolutely be a cut above what we have in that role at present, but I would hope that we've got our eyes on someone younger. |

Have said before that restoring the Academy to Cat 1 status is probably the smartest move they could make IF the plan involves ongoing investment, at least in the short term. I believe the costs of doing so can be deducted from any P&S calculations. |

There are an awful lot of people out there who have never truly understood how expensive it is to run a Championship football club. For example, at the absolute maximum our total revenue from gate receipts is about £4-5m a season, yet window after window the ceaseless calls for "investment and ambition" begin. We must be averaging at least £10m a year in subsidy from ownership since Covid. |

They've spent 14 years in opposition watching the slow rise of Nationalist politics all over the Globe. They're probably trying to push as much as they can through as quickly as they can because they might not get another chance after this. |
