Another knife attack
at 19:38 22 Feb 2025

Reports say that "A 37-year-old Algerian man was arrested". A passer-by died after being stabbed, while three police officers suffered knife wounds. What I noticed is that when the recent German and French attacks have occurred the mass media reported the nationality of the suspect straight away, while the UK seems more guarded about doing this.

Swansea City v Blackburn Rovers : Match day thread ** Updated

Happy with this so far. I was thinking our strikers were lacking sharpness and not getting on the end of some reasonable low crosses, and even Vipotnik's goal was a bit messy. But Peart Harris' effort really suggested he may be finally starting to deliver. It was one of the best goals we've scored for a while. Hope we don't go into our shell now in the 2nd half.

Amazon Prime (there may be free trial available) or Apple TV. That was in the link that I couldn't post because of "inappropriate language" from JustTV. I couldn't see anything unusual.

Interesting one for us to watch. Do we prefer Plymouth's revival to take a set back, or the Bluebirds to be dragged to the very edge of the relegation places? I think I'd marginally prefer an Argyle win.

There is this "companion" film, although I haven't seen it myself.

There is an automatic censor that rejected a link reviewing this film, which was made on Gower during COVID.

Yes, you'd have thought that PPE had more than one session on transaction costs.

That 3rd paragraph is blatant anti-Semitism and might risk a criminal sanction in the UK. With all due respect, I don't think something like that should be posted on this forum.

I see that co-writer Paul Durden died in 2022. Years ago he was one of the more interesting characters who frequented the Tenby.

"Which one is based on sex?" (of the male nicknames)

At a stretch it could be argued that some appear to be based on disvalued male work stereotypes (Spreadsheet Phil) or the implication that a male does something stereotypically associated with females (Mogadon Man). The obvious one with a gender dimension is Hunt's nickname, an insulting reference to a defining female characteristic.

Labour's last hope?
at 06:23 22 Feb 2025

Blue Labour featured in “The Story” on Times Radio today, with an item on: “The Labour politician who inspired JD Vance” (Feb 21, 2025). This refers to the fact that Maurice Glasman was the only Labour politician invited to Trump’s inauguration, and might be a better point of connection for Labour with the US administration than Farage. This idea will probably turn off many forum readers, but it is worth listening to the podcast to understand the context.

https://www.thetimes.com/podcasts/the-story (scroll down to right podcast)

This one discusses the resurgence of Blue Labour influence through Downing Street Chief of Staff, Morgan McSwenney, and interest in whether this can help the party counter Reform in the Red Wall seats. There is an interesting angle on how Vance started as a left-leaning author (Hillbilly Elegy) interested in the impoverishment of “rust belt” communities, who corresponded with Glasman, but gave up on his attempt to reform the Democratic Party on Blue Labour lines to instead flip across to the populism of MAGA. The Times political editor argues that McSweeney and Glasman will be briefing Starmer on how he can give his response to Trump a blueish tinge in their meeting next week.

Lived in Neath Road in our fair city at the time of the conviction. Wonder whether he had work here. Reports variously say he was previously a PhD student and "professor" (probably meaning a lower academic grade) at Nottingham University.

Sexual Harassment Or Not?

Must admit I didn't think that the kiss aspect would lead to a conviction, but thought LR might get hit hard for the coercion charge. In the event he was found not guilty of that 2nd potentially more serious offense. It looks as though the court did not put much weight on the lip reading evidence that he asked permission, and instead went with Jenni's story that she did not hear what he said with so much crowd noise and did not consent. It would be interesting to get more detail on the reasoning. Expensive kiss at 10,000 euros, losing a job, and I'd guess hefty legal expenses

The latest rumoured whizz from Rachel is to cut the ISA annual deposit limit from £20K to £4K. Hope this doesn't happen as I wanted to transfer the full amount in April having been hit hard with an end-of-year tax adjustment demand for the last year, as savings interest rates have gone up. Unclear whether this is investment ISAs as well as cash ISAs, and of course the rumoured change may not happen at all.
