West Brom's Scott Sinclair critical of Swansea City fans 17:00 - Dec 28 with 5073 viewsOldjack

SCOTT Sinclair has accused Swansea City fans of having "short memories" after they booed him at West Brom.

Swansea's 2011 play-off final hero was jeered by sections of the visiting support when Michael Laudrup's men won 2-0 at The Hawthorns back in September.

Sinclair was a huge success during two seasons at the Liberty, scoring 27 goals in 2010-11 to help Swansea into the Premier League and then netting another eight times as they survived in the following campaign.

The wideman scored his last senior goal under Laudrup at the start of last season before joining Manchester City in a £6.2 million deal.

When asked about the Swansea fans' hostile reaction to him, Sinclair said: "I really don’t know why they booed me, I’d obviously left and they wanted me to stay.

"Some fans have short memories, they don’t realise what you did for the club and understand why you left.

"Sometimes your decisions don’t work out but it was quite a shame some of the Swansea fans did it.

"I was so happy for them when they won the League Cup this year and I loved every minute of my time there.

"I got some stick and I’m sure when we go to the Liberty I'll get booed again but I'm just focused on doing well for Albion and getting back to the level I was at with Swansea."

We've got a strange lot of fans.

People will drool over players like Borini, Bodde, Lampard etc but boo a player that without doubt propelled us into the Premier League. Bizarre.

He didn't leave us under any bad terms…he left us for Man City ffs. If he left us straight to a league rival (straight to West Brom for example) you could kind of understand some bad feelings….but he left us for the best club in British football.

Most Swansea City fans don't have memories, short or long.

As for Sinclair, he doesn't play for us anymore so f*ck him. Great player for us, but no longer.

Jeering, booing and banter will always be a part of football, there is nothing wrong with it. The back on the bench song was hilarious and demonstrated the point we were trying to make perfectly.

How you can make the point of that is beyond me, who cares if he's on the bench, in the stand, at home with Helen, he could be playing on Mars all I care if he is not playing for us. When he played for us he was a great player, end of story.

However probably most people doing this only saw him vs Forest, Reading and in the PL so weren't there when he was banging them in for fun.

It just makes us look small-time and a bunch of idiots by booing an ex-player that did very well for us. Did the Man United fans boo Ronaldo when he went back to Old Trafford? No. For me the Sinclair situation is the same as that, just obviously he isn't as good as Ronaldo.

Each to their own I say.

I don't boo anyone, I applaud good play, whether it is us or the opposition. If the opposition scores a cracker, I will applaud it, it's what sport is about.

I clap their team onto the pitch as well as ours. And I will also applaud people off the pitch, ours or theirs. It is how I was brought up to enjoy football. Two teams, in a struggle of athleticism, skill and flair trying to out-manoeuvre one another to score more goals than each other.

Is that wrong?

Don't care.

It's how I believe the sport should be appreciated.

Each to their own.

You want to scream obscenities at the opposition or flick the Vees at the oppo fans, go right ahead if that is what you want. There is NO right or wrong way to appreciate the game or the players. As long as there is no racism or violence involved - go for it. You pay your money, do what you like. But don't tell me how I should be appreciating what's going on. You do it your way, I'll do it mine.

"Who scored that Naughty?", "I don't know, I've forgotten my bl**dy glasses again!".

They may have booed ronaldo had he gone to say Chelsea or Liverpool though, not that Sinclair did anything wrong but its all about context. I do not feel he would have been booed if he came to play against us as a Citeh player either. The p1ss take was he ended up at West Brom.

He was the stand out player in perhaps our most important season in the history of the club. Without him we would not be where we are today. I see no reason why it is fine to boo and jeer Sinclair while we happily clap players Graham who contributed not nearly as much as Sinclair.

Yes he left for the money. Who wouldn't? He was not a local lad. He has the same affiliation to Swansea as the rest of us do to Hull. Would you leave Hull to triple your wages at the Champions of England? Of course you would.

Totally agree, he played a massive role in us getting to the premier league. Definitely got to welcome and cheer him when he comes back with another team.

The guy went to Man City though, even though they are in the same league as us they are playing for different things. Ah well it back fired, it happens just like any job can.
