Why would you think defeat inevitable? They're the strongest we'll have played in Europe, and the better in our group, but they aren't that great. I don't think they are on par with Man U, City, Chelski, Arsenal, Spurs or even Liverpool... We don#t consider defeat to them inevitable. I always assumed they were probably around Everton quality.
| Did you see that ludicrous display last night? |

Valencia playing tonight - SS1 on 21:47 - Sep 15 with 11906 views | PureRockFury | We've seen more of Valencia as an attacking force in the 2nd half, but even so, Betis dealt with most of it quite easily, and Valencia still look sh*t at the back. I'm not reading too much into this for Thursday, but the pressure will be on them massively when they face little 'ol Swansea; hopefully we can use that to our advantage.

I'm not sure how 'little' swansea is considered in spain, given that all the spanish players told us that swansea were becomming one of the more well-known british team there.

Valencia playing tonight - SS1 on 02:10 - Sep 16 with 11540 views | JoeSoccerFan | I was shocked at how bad they were in the back. I hope this isn't their reserve team. I was convinced that #22 (LCB) Jeremy Mathieu had bet on Betis to win. He stunk so bad he was a sewage treatment plant. #14 LB Juan Bernat doesn't like to mark dribblers closely - possibly because the Lumbering #22 Mathieu doesn't provide support. Shots from outside of the box and crosses will be available for the right wing/right back/drunken fan from the right side/etc. DM #6 Oriol Romeu reads the game well for playing with his head up his arse. He doesn't react to the play and when he does he moves without urgency. RCB #20 Ricardo Costa is serviceable - but surrounded by a clown troop. RB #14 Joao Pereira gets up the line (as well as the LB - Bernat). The GK Diego Alves may have broke his jaw blocking a shot (with his face). He doesn't move to his right well. #9 Postingo is a dangerous sniper that moves into spaces. He needs to be neutralized and marked closely. He was better against Barcelona. #7 Jonas Goncalves should be watched carefully, too. #10 Ever Banega is their most technical player, but he is a liability on defense. He goes down quicker than a Cardiff prostitute. He delivers low driven corners. For this reason, we need to minimize corners and deep set pieces. Our best defense is to pressure high. The defenders don't seem skilled with their feet. They'll resort to kicking the ball down the field. Pressure, pressure, pressure. I hope Canas cleans #10 Banega's clock earlier to take him off his game. Work the ball quickly through the center of the field and find Bony working off the slow LCB Mathieu. I really hope this wasn't their reserve team. I'm glad that we don't have to play Real Betis. The way that we play is absolutely a perfect match for the Valencia team that I saw tonight.

I didn't see the game but most of the players played for them last season. Diego Alves (gk) Mathieu Bernat (think he's midfield more than defence usually) Ricardo Costa Joao Pereira All of those played in defence last season and they weren't up to much as a defensive unit. Valencia finished 5th last season and relied heavily on goals scored. Soldado was obviously the star and he's now gone. I think he scored over 30 goals last season in the league. In terms of goals against, they conceded the most goals in the top 6. They conceded the same and even more than some of the bottom sides - celta vigo, osasuna, granada. They all finished just above relegation but conceded less or similar to Valencia. I enjoyed watching Valencia and didn't watch them religiously but caught the odd game here and there and followed their results. They are there for the taking, IMO. They'll probably still be a threat going forward. Benega is very good too. [Post edited 16 Sep 2013 9:48]
