Rangers have been locked in talks with the Argentine club over a deal for the highly-rated Colombian striker.
West Ham had previously struck a deal before pulling out earlier this summer, while other clubs from around Europe such as Italians Napoli and Sassuolo, French side Evian and Spaniards Atletico Madrid have all shown an interest in recent weeks.
However, Rangers have now managed to broker a deal for Zapata worth $10million (£6.4million).
Zapata is now due to arrive in England over the weekend to finalise personal terms and undergo a medical.
The 22-year-old, who is expected to be part of Colombia's squad for next year's World Cup finals, will then need a work-permit - which will have to go to appeal.
QPR are hopeful that Zapata will be granted the move under the 'special talent' ruling.

Because there isn't an U21 Colombian national team. Around here, we only have U20s. And he was part of the setup for that team (he scored 1 goal in 3 matches at the Youth World Cup). And he also played (and won) the Toulon Youth Championship in 2011.
The only reason he is not a full Colombian international is this:
Radamel Falcao Teo Gutierrez Jackson Martinez Carlos Bacca Luis Muriel Dorlan Pabon Carlos Quintero
Not to mention other attacking options from midfield such as James Rodriguez, Juan Fernando Quintero, Macnelly Torres or even Giovani Moreno.
Competition for places in Colombia right now is BRUTAL.
Don't know if that can be used as an explanation ahead of whoever decides whether he deserves a work permit or not, but in my opinion, that's the only reason standing between Duvan and regular international football.

Such cynicism. The thing is that those teams don't often need to trawl around the bargain basement of unknown talent that is just bubbling under. They can pretty much afford to buy whoever they want, usually full internationals from reasonably high ranked countries. So the sort of questions we need to respond to are probably less relevant to them.

Here's what one of my sources close to Estudiantes tells me (and I'm not Sky Sports. I really have sources there! haha!)
After the West Ham possibility died down (some say it was because of a work permit, some say it was because they weren't paying up front, truth is it never got to a point in which a medical happened), QPR have been in pole position. Offer accepted, deal sorted, medical passed, the whole lot.
Sassuolo were interested, but again, paying in several installments, so Estudiantes chose QPR.
A few days later (because this Duvan-to-QPR has been doing the rounds for a solid 10-15 days around here but only hit the UK media 5-7 days after), Napoli made an offer. QPR had the offer accepted at 8M (I think it was 8M USD, not pounds, but I may have that figure wrong), whilst Napoli only bid 5.
Estudiantes said: "Give me 6 and he's yours." in a bid to have a Plan B in case Duvan's WP fails. Napoli said "OK", but Estudiantes then may have heard things were fine with Duvan and QPR so they played hard ball with Napoli and told them: "Now we want 8M". To which Napoli (and rightly so) told them to "va fanculo".
But today, with Estudiantes' president in Rome (Argentina play Italy tomorrow there), a contact with Napoli was renewed and there were meeting there.
My source tells me: "If they reach an agreement, they fly him from London to Napoli in a heart-beat and he's off to play over there. Make no mistake".
I guess we will have to wait and see if they do reach a deal with Napoli and then Napoli with Duvan. And then, if that doesn't happen, see if the WP is granted.
I always had my doubts on this deal actually happening, but I was stupid enough to get my hopes really high that I'll be devastated if it doesn't happen.
Several names were thrown on the table after they signed Higuain. They mentioned there was a move to get Eto'o (who is now linked with Chelsea) and there is also another Colombian striker (Jackson Martinez) from Porto.
But if those two don't join them, I'm afraid they'll go in for Duvan.

- Napoli can't believe this.
- Estudiantes and Napoli will now wait to see what happens with the work permit application.
It all depends on that, it seems.
I think the fact that Napoli would probably be looking to register him 50-50% with another Italian club and possibly sent him out on loan, could be having an impact in Duvan's agent's mind. That and a possible interesting fee to the agent we are not so famous for paying!

Between London and Italy. The future of Duvan Zapata is to be deciphered. The Colombian striker has been training with QPR in London, but the English club had decided to give up his purchase not only for reasons related to work permit (the decision is expected by tomorrow) but because the player did not like it very Redknapp. Nor Estudiantes is convinced to transfer it to QPR.
