Poor effort by England in this test, they could be 2-1 down if the Aussies had, had the rub of the green in the first test, if the ball doesn't swing our fast bowlers are fooked, Aussies bowling attack are far better Siddle, Harris and Starc have been excellent fair do's.
Time to give Onions a crack in the bowling attack and Taylor in the batting, on Friday.

Bloody hell, 2-0 up at a canter and a draw from a rain affected Test (which happens in cricket quite regularly) and we're rubbish again. England were by far the better team at both Nottingham (despite the close finish) and absolutely annihilated Australia at Lord's. Aussies did well in this Test and took advantage of the good conditions in the first innings. England didn't get enough first innings runs and that's what caused the problem in this game. Cook and Trott aren't firing and thankfully Pietersen and Bell stepped up.

And there's no way the Aussie bowling attack is better than England's. They haven't managed 20 England wickets in a game in this series yet. They may have got them today if the weather hadn't intervened, they may not have.

I'm sticking by my 3-1 to England prediction. They're a far better side than Australia.

Well, I never said we are rubbish, but I've been disappointed in our batting in the first test (if that decision with Broad had been correctly made, what might have happened then?)and in this test, our pace attack hasn't worked in this test as well as the Aussie one, they've bowled far better on the flat pitch at Old Trafford, all the expectation probably hasn't helped, all we've heard in the media is that it would be an easy series, apart from the 2nd test, it really hasn't, hope we can pick up again starting Friday and ram our class home, the Durham wicket may suit the Aussies though

Iam struggling to believe that we can retain the Ashes out there in the Winter, what about you?

The Aussies have come back very strong in this test but I still think we can win this 4-0
By doing that I would make us strong favourites out there to retain the ashes. Momentum is key so if the Aussies do get the better of the next 2 then it'll be interesting
We still look to have a far better team. Unsure on bairstow

Bairstow is a long way off a test 6 at the moment - very much a one day player. James Taylor has a better technique.

He's also seen fire. And rain.

You can point to any number of umpiring decisions in the three Tests so far that if made differently could have changed things, to the advantage of both teams. The LBW shocker that Trott got at Nottingham is just one example. I agree that Australia have performed well in this game and have been the better team, England's batting was disappointing but I don't particularly blame the bowlers for the Aussie first innings score. The conditions were perfect and Clarke was inspired. The Aussie bowlers did bowl well but were helped by the batsmen in England's first innings and the conditions were perfect this morning for bowling but again, some poor shots by Trott and Pietersen chivvied them along.

I think your view of the first Test is clouded by the closeness of the finish. It was only Agar's freakish 98 and the tail end wagging with Haddin in the second innings that kept Australia in the game after they'd had an excellent first day.

Nope, I'm not struggling to believe that we can retain the Ashes in Australia this winter. It'll be a closer series but man for man England remain far better than Australia and I think we'll win it.

I really hope so, I listened to what I could today, but its never easy listening, especially at 11 for 2

I'd certainly like to see both Taylor and Onions play Friday and maybe Tremlett in the last, just to mix it up and give players that could be on the Aussie tour a taster..

Taylor's been left out of the squad, he was only in as cover for Pietersen. Thankfully the England selectors don't go for knee-jerk reactions and start changing the team willy-nilly especially when we're 2-0 up with two to play in an Ashes series. Wouldn't be surprised to see Onions play on his home ground though instead of Bresnan, or possibly Broad if he's not fit.

Its not knee jerk though, the ashes have been retained why not try one or two, Taylor has been knocking on the door for a while, can't see no reason in not giving him a chance, prehaps it'll come in the 5th test if Bairstow doesn't score.

Wicket is a batsman's paradise so if England overcome the new ball they could be set for a big innings

One of the most interesting aspects to come out of the third test is that the referral system at this level has made the game more confusing than what it was without it.
It appears that the system is in place not to determine whether a batsman was out or not, but whether the umpires decision can be overruled or not.
To me this is an enigma.Has the game now reached a stage where we should have referrals of referrals. Have these referrals become more important than the game itself.
Also we have now learned that the equipment is fallible.Snicker doesn't always show snicks.Fracker cannot be used because it takes to long to show.Tracker cannot be trusted to show whether the ball is really going to hit the outside stumps or not.
Let's be honest it has all become a load of balls.
Let's throw it into touch and go back to real cricket ,where the umpires decision has to be accepted and respected.

youre right
its become a circus and its taken over the quality of the game
at least if they are going to use all the stuff available to refer whats happened to snicko which is the best of all the technology

I'm rather disappointed over the way we've retained the Ashes (I know, I know it's the Ashes and I should be grateful)....I just wish it had been a better contest...the third Test was all a bit meh.....Still hope now the pressure's off the last two games we can have a decent bit of cricket.

Just glad the great british weather intervened yesterday and that they have retained the Ashes yet again:) Oh and that I didn't put the mockers on it saying it was a very poor batting lineup for the aussies :) On to Chester le should be a ding dong battle now the aussies have their tails up, bring it on. 9-0 will do

Wonder if there'll be changes, obviously calls for onions on his home ground but I've got a feeling they'll stick with same xi
