Richard The Third-NOT rhyming slang..... on 22:50 - Feb 4 with 704 views | BromleyHoop | Having just watched the very interesting documentary about this body in the car park. The scientists came to the conclusion that - 1) The body was that of Richard III. 2) He had a hunchback and 3) He had the means, motive and opportunity to kill the Princes in the Tower. Not too much spin there!

Richard The Third-NOT rhyming slang..... on 14:27 - Feb 4 by loftboy | Got to be the equivalent of looking for a penny in the bottom of the Atlantic. Only question I have is who's DNA is it compared to as he was the last of a blood line? Or am I stupid |
No you are not being stupid. But he did have a sister who survived him and who had descendants and as i understand it DNA is best traced though the female line. It was only recently that it was established that the sister's descendants could be traced. It is also credibly reported that an illegitimate son survived him and worked in some fairly low-key job - labourer or some such - until dying of old age decades later, but i don't think any descendants through that line were ever identified

Missed the documentary, will have to catch it on i-player. Glad to hear they reached the third conclusion on your list. Publications on this subject are dominated by people determined to show Richard III was innocent, like they are Richard III fans or something. There were 20 monarchs of England from William the Conqueror to Henry VII [inclusive] of whom 5 - that's 25% - were overthrown and killed, including Edward V [the prince in the Tower] and Richard III himself. Another - Matilda - was chased out of the country and John probably would have been killed if he hadn't died of natural causes first. There are a few cases of people who seized power but didn't kill the king and in every case I can think of the king came back and did them in. Conclusion: since Richard III deposed Edward V, Richard would have had to have been stupid or naive not to have killed him; and the pro-Richard people have bust a gut to show he was clever and bold. Therefore its odds of about 3:1 he dunnit, however good a king he was. For some reason, for the Richard III society, its not enough to show Richard was a good medieval king - which is fair enough- he has to be a saint too.

Back in those days London wasn't such a big place though, was it. Leicester and York were just as important. If you'd told him he would end up buried in London he might have taken that as an insult.
