It's interesting for a number of reasons: 1) It looks at what different members of the board thought of Hughes. 2) It says the team selection for Manchester United was made by Hughes. 3) It says Redknapp can buy, but would have to sell to buy. 4) It puts the spending in perspective by comparing it to Southampton's.

He has bought crap ... from a boot sale dragged from stall to stall by Hughes and Kirabchian, not questioning anything but paying out like a wide eyed kid meeting his hero . We can forget about a new stadium and state of the art training facilities if we go down. Relegation will be down to our transfer policy. Fernandes has failed to realise that you need to build a team which includes team spirit. This is not Air Asia where employees are busting a gut because they need a job to survive. We are dealing with multi millionaires with no financial worries. SWP, Ferdinand, Barton, Traore, Boswinga, Zamora, Onuoha... all their former clubs wanted rid and with good reason. What I find unacceptable is that the board didn't learn from last season. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Tony Fernandes was forced to sack Mark Hughes by QPR board on 19:30 - Dec 10 with 805 views | derbyhoop | For all we know, TF could have set a transfer budget of £15m and, without any football knowledge of his own, trusted the manager to use the money wisely. As it turns out, he was wrong. But there weren't many saying that when Hughes brought in Zamora, Diakite, Cisse and Johnson. Probably not many calling him out when he signed Nelsen, England's 2nd choice keeper, Mbia and Hoilett. It's easy to be wise after the event. TF and his backers have learnt an expensive lesson. It remains to be seen if future activity has improved because of the errors made in the last 18 months.

No, I'm not saying that. I'm saying I dont care what they are like as people, its the job they do as the Chairman as my football club that I will judge them on, not their personality FFS. Some of you lot carry on like you are meeting him down the pub in a few hours, he's not your mate & no amount of "touchy feely" press conferences will change that fact. Has he done a good job as QPR chairman ? That's all it is, anything else is irrelevant.

I remember when there were rumours that we were looking to sign Zamora and Johnson. Most people on this board were disheartened by it, we couldn't see where the goals were coming from and thought that we were signing Fulham's rejects. Johnson's horrific injury record and Zamora's attitude problem was well documented on here. Ferdinand was another one who we thought - jeez not that bloody clown. We had many suggestions on this board during the last two seasons and I have to say that most on this board, were acting logical in that we were thinking about areas that needed strengthening and rather then looking at also-rans were talking about quality players from the Championship.

Tony Fernandes was forced to sack Mark Hughes by QPR board on 20:34 - Dec 9 by kropotkin41 | +1 The measure of TF's acumen and long term impact really, is not whether the guy has made mistakes at QPR, even huge ones. As Chubbs pointed out, there were very many of us who thought that we were going to do at least reasonably under MH, how could we fail? The measure of the man as QPR chairman will be whether he has the stomach for a long term fight, whether he realised all along that, as the common caveat runs, the value of his investment could fall aswell as rise, that a football club, outside of the few gilt-edged establishments, is liable to relegation and failure, in many cases more often than outright success. If we get relegated and TF leaves us high and dry he will be judged harshly, but if he stays and continues to build the club's infrastructure, if he proves to be sensitive to the club's history and to its realistic potential, then people will forgive him Mark Hughes and 2012-13. There is a story about Chou-en Lai: someone asked him whether the French Revolution had been a success, he said that it was too soon to tell. The same must be admitted for the career of TF as Rangers' Chairman..... it's early days for a club that arguably wasn't ready, or at least was ill-prepared for promotion to the Premiership. |
Spot on, is still early days, hopefully we'll stay up this season but if not as long as TF hangs around to carry on taking the club where he wants it to go he doesn't deserve criticism. He has done nothing but good for the club except appoint Mark Hughes. And surely you gotta give the guy a break and allow him one mistake, even if it was a big one that has caused so much pain. For me, i'm an optimist, and the last three games have seen an improvement of sorts and i think we'll get out of it. Amazing what a positive mindset in a packed Loftus Road could do to the team now Redknapp is in charge.

Tony Fernandes was forced to sack Mark Hughes by QPR board on 22:17 - Dec 9 by baz_qpr | I do and I dont think his motivation is about making a profit as per Caterham When he signed Hughes he set out to bring in a club builder we had this debate at the time do you get in a club builder who will build a long term infrastructure or do you bring in a team builder who's focus is purely on the first team. Hughes CV suggested that he would be ideal of what was available. Warnock had got us promoted and then his acquisitions in september led us to having the oldest team ever to play in the premier league at Newcastle. We looked like good relegation bets with that run in, and of course it would have been better to get a younger striker but signings of Zamora and Cisse seemed like a step up. Onhura had a good reputation in the game, Taiwoo and Diakete were on loan and we were without Adel who had been badly mismanaged at the start of the season. Come the great escape last summer and things looked quite positive, we needed a striker, 2 centre backs a right back a winger. Fernandes supported the manager and the manager bought badly and without too much thought, coupled with the fact he is a really poor man manager and not great tactically with really poor pre-season led us to where we are. If Fernandes is guilty of anything it may be complacency, complacency that because we had stayed up that Hughes would be true to his word. We all thought Swansea was a blip a fluke but the truth as we saw was a manager who had no idea what to do with his first team, and let some squad players go that we really miss now. Yes he supported Hughes too long and clearly it was a mistake to appoint a friend and its clouded his judgement, but seriously some of the comments on here are as if these guys have been living in a vacuum for the last 20 years. He has supported his managers in the transfer market, he appointed the guy that turned around the dome as his ceo, they've made steps to buying a new training ground, plans for a stadium, geeze its not like they are not trying, they've been naive at times, they were dealt a poor hand to begin with, and the manager they trusted ballsed up on an epic scale having never done so before. |
".....and the manager they trusted ballsed up on an epic scale having never done so before" Well I'm not sure you can put his ridiculous spending spree at Man City as particularly successful.

FYI We nearly won the league under Jim . We had 5 first teamers in the England team including the Captain . He developed a ramshackle ground into a modern 70s one I spent the first half of his tenure in the boys enc in the Loft and the second half watching us play total football mixing it with the big boys so the leg room wasnt an issue . As for TF "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" .... even for nice guys
