Why, they did fck all for Wimbledon FC in their fight for survival and return to said borough. Real shame what happened to Dons fans. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I think they did, until they changed their badge recently it said 1986 on it I think the rules on insolvency were different then so you could effectively close your company on Friday and reopen it debt free on Monday.

Gretna. They were minnows funded by a millionaire into the SPL where he abruptly pulled the plug and they imploded.

Didn't realise Rangers are now called.... on 11:03 - Jul 29 by Jamie | Nah. Club had been dissolved 6 months before he died. |
Yes because he was ill and in hospital. He had two stomach operations and was then hospitalised with a brain infection before finally suffering a heart attack at home and dying. His support was withdrawn when the brain infection hospitalised him. So it's slightly unfair to say he just pulled out. Max Griggs at Rushden pulled out of his own free will as they reached League One and they've subsequently collapsed.
Didn't realise Rangers are now called.... on 11:17 - Jul 29 with 2319 views | Jamie | Unfair perhaps to say he pulled the plug as it was his family that ceased funding. In many ways they were the Crawley of Scottish Football. Spending exorbitantly to climb the leagues and making no friends on the way up.

They were the second prime example - after Rushden - of the dangers of rising above your level on the whim of one rich man. It's why new stadium, new youth academy, new training ground, commercial revenues etc is important to QPR. The sad thing about Rushden is it was the amalgamation of two small non league clubs who'd been quite happily plodding along for years. Now neither of them, or the new club, exist.

That's why they have this caveat: The supporters of AFC Wimbledon believe that our club is a continuation of the spirit which formed Wimbledon Old Centrals in 1889 and kept Wimbledon Football Club alive until May 2002. We consider that a football club is not simply the legal entity which controls it, but that it is the community formed by the fans and players working towards a common goal. We therefore reproduce the honours won by what we believe was, and will always be, 'our' club, in our community

Didn't realise Rangers are now called.... on 12:52 - Jul 30 with 1914 views | Mr_Foxy | Well, much as I disliked them, the new Rushden & Diamonds are very much alive and kicking. The reformed club has moved into Senior Football for this year, playing in the United Counties League Division One (5 divisions below the Conference) and groundsharing with Wellingborough Town. They've managed to get a shirt sponsorship deal from EA Sports worth around £12k (a friend of mine is on the committee at AFC R&D and told me the ballpark figure but wouldn't give me the exact number!). They've been signing a few decent players too so I wouldn't be surprised if they reach about Southern League Division One level in the next few years, provided of course they can keep the 400-500 hardcore who watched the youth team last year going. Still can't stand them and they've actually upset a lot of the local clubs in the Northants area with a very arrogant attitude so they're not actually too popular!

are they still at Nene Park? I know Kettering were playing there despite having a perfectly adequate stadium in Kettering, but that the rent on Nene Park was adding to their costs tenfold. Not had an update but heard a while ago that they were on their last legs.

What has happened to their Nene Park stadium? Went to a Conference game there in 2000 with Kingstonian. Looked modern and plush for that level at the time.
