Reminds me a bit of Mick Leach (sorry, that old). Not as a big favourite with the fans as others but watching some of the clips Leach used to score some great goals with plenty of assists. Not as skillful as others but always there or thereabouts and you know what you get with him.
The finish against Liverpool was excellent and he burst a lung to keep up with Traore at Man C. Good to see a midfielder get in the box. |
Mick Leach was a lot better player than Mackie, but otherwise I agree with you. He's the kind of guy who just rolls his sleeves up, shows us that silly tattoo, and works extra hard. And you certainly need players like that because Hughes has shown he's not afraid to drop people and it keeps the star names on their toes knowing he's fighting hard every day to both prove and improve himself.
Besides, I don't see any evidence of him wanting to go anywhere whatsoever. From relegated Plymouth to world-famous QPR? He's having the time of his life. |  | | |

It still amazes me how Mackie is underestimated on here,he has proved time and time again what a good player he is for us and how he is determined to always improve himself,once again he will have to prove people wrong this season. |

He won't leave and why should he, he's at a club that's going places. We need players like Mackie who have character, who'd run through brick walls for the club and chips in with important goals. There are other players who should be forced out before we even contemplate selling Mackie.

I don't understand why anyone would touch Blackburn with a barge pole at the moment. It just encourages a longer period of gestation for Kean and Venky's, the latter of which could have done themselves a PR favour over the summer by ditching the former.

Agree there's no reason whatsoever to let Mackie go, we desperately need a base of players that at least seem to understand what the Club's about, and have a rapport with the fans.

I never really understand why people say so often that Mackie is lacking in technical skills. What are these technical skills that he is lacking in? He doesn't have the flair of Adel, but who else does? He can run with the ball better than most, cross the ball better than many (SWP comes to mind), get into the box as well as anyone, and score goals better than most. All of those are technical skills. He never falls down when running and isn't known for getting caught in possession or terrible passing.
The only thing about this story that makes me nervous is that he is a bloody good player who wants to play first team football and if he thinks that he won't get the chance at QPR, he might decide that his shelf-life (as a footballer) is too short to wait. I hope he stays as we have rarely had such dynamism coming off the bench. |  |
