OK, I'm not getting over excited, his reign is only 3 games old and staying up will be a scrap but a couple of initial thoughts on Hughes.
- I've been impressed with how he's assessed the squad so quickly, sure someone will have given him the background to each player but he seems to have identified players + positions pretty quickly - following on from above each player seem to know what their role is and he hasn't asked them to perform miracles, ie SWP more running at his man, mackie box to box, even hall was in position all game. - substitutions, was DJ injured? Thought bring Tommy on at half time was a great sub and introducing Derry when he did - positive and calculated substitutions. - I like the way he speaks post game never over excited, factual, professional and serious
I agree. I think we're really fortunate to have MH as Manager and, if he sees out his 2.5year contract, he will be the perfect person to see this club through a (nother) massive period of transition both on and off the pitch.
Aside from coaching and tactics, one thing that MH has over NW is an international perspective regarding players. Warnock is strictly limited to domestic football and domestic footballers and probably lower league footballers at that. MH is several rungs up the ladder in terms of being a manager.
Anyone get the impression the players have been instructed to shoot on sight? Right from the off against Newcastle we were taking shots any time anyone was within range, same again yesterday.

I think its a very clever way to get a team's confidence back. A well struck shot forcing a save picks everyone up.
if Warnock had replaced DJ with a winger and put swp up front I'm not sure everyone would have been hailing him as a genius.
Hughes has done well but if you can't beat Wigan at home you don't deserve to be in this league imo
Agreed.
Lets give MH a few games before casting judgement. I am delirious that we got two wins in a row but they were against Division 3 opposition and bottom of the league. Lets see if we can keep up the momentum against Villa.
Whilst accepting the excellent job NW did in getting us up, anyone who thinks Warnock is a better manager than Hughes is delusional. Leave aside any arguments about management style, coaching methods, tactics, etc, just look at the cold hard facts. MH has managed only at international and Prem level. Seven seasons as a Prem manager, only one season with his team ending up outside the top ten. Plus he oversaw an improvement in Wales results at international level.
NW is 63, and has only previously managed at the top level for ONE season, at SheffU and that ended in relegation. One season in over 30 years as a manager.
I never liked MH much as a footballer, but I'm not going to let that blind me to that blatantly obvious. He may not be a success here, way too early to tell. But all the evidence suggests he is better equipped to be a success for us than NW. Anyone telling you different, well its just sour grapes I'm afraid.

I hope you are right. I even expect you to be right. But it is much to early to determine that you actually are correct.
MH hasn't brought in any new players yet or had enough training time to have much of an impact.
We all know you love Warnock.....in fact.....come to think of it.......I've never seen daveb and Warnock in the same room at the same time!!
not suggesting warnock is a better manager for us than hughes, too early to tell at the moment imo Hughes will need time to build is own team and I don't think he should be judged until the end of next season. He's started well but so did Warnock

He was manager of notts county in the top division in the early nineties as well. Although they also got relegated
Awesome, this thread's been converted into another MH v NW thread, yawn, Warnock's now left, move forward...
interpret it that way if you want. The OP made his points about MH, asked for any other thoughts, and I made them, not from the point of NW v MH, but from the point of, what's likely to be more beneficial to us and our chances of staying up.
For me, it's always about what's best for the club, not individual players or managers or owners.

Seeing as he was hoping to get the Villa job and got rejected, he'd want to show what they're missing and stuff them. Nothing personal...just business.

The end of NEXT season!!!!! So if he wins the next 20 matches in a row you still think it's too early to judge him!?!? Shirley you mean the end of this season. I would think that are plenty of people on here who think that Hughes would be an instant legend if we beat Chelsea in the Cup next week!

well yeah if he wins 20 games in a row that would be amazing but won't happen. I think you have to give a manager time to make his own impact and don't judge him too harshly one way or the other
We lost to a Newcastle side that just got bummed to death by Fulham. We were outclassed for most of the game by MK Dons (who only managed a draw in League One). We beat Wigan.
I'm more than happy with two wins but come on chaps, hold on a bit.
Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.
