Could Warburton as DOF/CEO and Cifuentes as Head Coach work? The dream scenario is that Warbs has always appeared financially switched-on in the football world and he appears to have a similar style-of-play outlook to Marti/Zavi. There could be a clash of strong driven personalities perhaps (but look at us now!).
If I was Ruben, right now I'd be very tempted....

I'd agree with all of that, Bristol.
That's why I always add the proviso that he "might" be great, because he really might! I mean, I'd love it, proper Keegan-style, if he was, but I'm just wary.
he cant be any worse than what we currently have in charge. it might cause friction with marti though being an ex manager and having clear ideas on how to play and a style of play
he is right on one comment though needing experience in the side which is something nourry has really screwed up with this season ,

I love Warbs, but everything we know about him tells us he has to be in charge.
He fell out with Brentford because he was pushing back on Benham trying to bring in set piece coaches, take more control of the signings and things like that. He fell out with us because he felt Les/Ramsey were trying to push sub standard academy players onto him. He didn't get on at West Ham because, as he says, he didn't like being no.2 after being no.1.
I think he'd find it very difficult to sit there as a DOF and not get involved directly in the picking of the team etc. I might be wrong.

He clearly has an affinity with us as well as unfinished business. I think personally he’d make a v good grown-up CEO/DOF but I did get the impression he still wants to coach/manage.
I like him and would welcome him back.

I love Mark as a man and a manager, he always comes across well and is as open and honest as he can be.
But, lets not forget that in his last season they massively pushed the boat out. The club did a lot of business early, handing out big contracts to Stefan and Charlie, which went on to haunt us for FFP for the next period.
It was publicly stated that we were aiming for top 6, so even us lowly fans knew what was expected of this manager and team.
The collapse that year was monumental, and if you use MW yardstick, we probably finished with a league position below our budget, so he did miss his target.
Now, was this because the noise between manager, DoF and academy was affecting the squad? We may never know. Charlie Austin said in a recent interview that the dressing room was poor in his second spell at QPR.
I almost always think this is due to money, and it might be that the higher earners piss off the rest of the squad if its felt like they are not pulling their weight.
Like Taarabt getting the hump when he found out Cesar earnt more than him
Intended to listen for a few minutes but I stayed to the end. Excellent interview. Mark was honest (it seems) but suitably diplomatic. Interesting angle that young bosses don't want older, more experienced people working under them. With the set-up at QPR today, it's a wonder that we do not have a coach who is in his teens (OK, only joking).

Love Warbs, however the collapse in his last season whilst partly down to injuries was also because players he had pushed for were completely gassed. Austin, Johansen and Wallace were cooked. All players Warbs had wanted.
They lost some absolutely pathetic games as well. Away to Barnsley and Millwall where he left Dieng on the bench because David Marshall had done OK as cover. At that point we had next to no injuries.
Then the collapse started. Home to Cardiff. 1-0 up and cruising and we pissed it away. Home to Peterborough, again 1-0 up and cruising before collapsing. He had dropped Barbet for Sanderson for that game. There was also the pathetic 1-0 loss at Stoke.
So yes injuries did bite. And yes we were unlucky with Willock getting cut down when he was in his prime. But the rot had set in and Warbs had started to make odd decisions. Had we beaten Cardiff and Peterborough at home and drawn with Millwall, Barnsley, Stoke away we would've been in the Play offs
However, the club very obviously should have set about the rebuild with Warbs at the helm as opposed to Beale/Critchley/Ainsworth

He's only done two years ever in the role, Numpty.
We might like him, and he might love us, and he might be a huge success - who knows? - but it's still only two years of experience.

Not sure Warburton is not qualified enough for the role of Director of football Brian.
Said at Watford was academy director and oversaw recruitment, data, coaching and performance departments.
Clearly is a very analytical man and understands data also. As shown in previous roles. Likes to play an entertaining brand of football and has proven abilities to see something in players that others may not.
For me having Warburton D o F and Marti as manager would fit well together.
It's an irrelevance as can't see that happening. We are stuck with Nourry in that role.
ButI think Warburton massively more qualified to be a Director of Football than our current incumbent and tbf Les had zero experience in football roles outside of playing also...
Warburton has become one of those topics where nuance seems to vanish and he is often pitched as this catch all saviour robbed of his time here by Evil Les and all that needs to happen is for him to come back and all is forgiven.
I'd start by saying I loved his reign here. We played lovely football, had some top players and on a personal level getting to watch his QPR teams with my dad in the last years of his life was a proper joy.
With that said, in every season in charge he oversaw quite sizeable losing streaks in each of his seasons with us. We were second in the league and took another 15 points from our last 17 matches. If fans had been in the stadiums during the first half of the Covid season, there is no doubt in my mind he would've been fired.
He was financially backed, failed, and left no lasting legacy for the club bar the Eze sell on fee. I know you can't go in for all the smoke and mirrors ITK stuff, but it's also a bit much to (rightly) coat of the youth system, but then indulge in some of the parts of first team culture he allowed (Andre Grey).
Whilst I have a lot of time for him as a human, he has also fallen out with pretty much every club he's ever worked at.
Love him, but we have to take the good with the bad and take a nuanced view of his time here. Obvs Nourry is a charlatan, but I'm not sure Warbz would be a success

It all went wrong for us after Mark Warburton. He called out Ramsey and the academy and Les didnt like it. That phone call he received on the north circular was from Les wasnt it?. Dropping out of the top 6 for the first time that season and then threatening him about his job. Les really got this one wrong. Just felt really unnecessary to change managers. Next in Beale. Great job Les. Having said all that , this interview felt more an angle to get back into management with QPR. Not really comfortable shifting Marti on for Warburton. One thing i would say is Warburton likes to call the shots. We need someone that knows football and finances. It would be nice for once, to have a person in that boardroom that talks some sense and isnt just a yes man.
i think it more likely came from the board than Les although the two of them clearly fell out

I did find his comments about high expectations for the playoffs a bit odd as it was him going into that season who kept saying we should be expecting to finish top 6 and thats our aim so thats what he was judged on and 13th was nowhere near in the end

We actually finished 11th that year, he was mistaken on the pod we were 13th in his first year which given the attack we had was probably a bit under.
But he's still the only manager we've had who's performed to the budget. Outperformed in two of his seasons.

He really struggled with injuries, which was unfortunate as I think we could have done better. I do recall the football being really pedestrian at times. As with a lot of people who have come through the doors at QPR in recent times, he talks a good game.

I did wonder about Austin and Johansen. MW mentioned that they did well on loan because they were hungry. Which I interpret as tried really hard as they wanted a more lucrative deal
Did we just see what happens when some players take their foot off the gas a little? --Or maybe the other players easing off after the bloke next to them gets a bit more, while doing less than them (in their eyes)?

oh yeah not knocking him and you see whats happened since it shows what a good job he did but it wasn't perfect and that 1st and 3rd season with us given the players we had it did feel like an under achievement in the end even though it probably wasn't
I just thought he bent the truth a bit about pressure from above to reach the playoffs when he was very clear in saying that should be the aim that season
