Mousehole AFC on 16:10 - Oct 28 with 2115 views | terryb | Football in Cornwall is very much on the up, withTruro in National League South, Helston, Mousehole & Falmouth in Southern League Division one. I'm far from sure how these clubs can afford the upkeep of the facilities, travel & players/managers wages. It's definitely not from gate receipts! I looked at the Mousehole ground while visiting my brother in June & I'm certain that it would cost a fortune to achieve the grading for the Southern League Premier. It is a lovely ground though.

We moved to Mousehole in 2015 and it has been a privilege to watch their progress since then. Mousehole have even won a couple of cups which is something Rangers have not managed since I went to my first match in 1967/68 season! If you are visiting the area it is definitely worth checking if Mousehole are at home because the football they play is (most of the time!) some of the best you will see at this level and of course there are Cornish pasties. You will need to drive carefully though as the potholes really are as bad as they look!
Mousehole AFC on 17:05 - Oct 28 with 1990 views | DiggertheMole | Love visiting Mousehole. My missus derives from Penzance and we get down there a couple of times every year. The walk from Penzance through Newlyn to Mousehole is stunning but not really tiring. On that stroll you pass the closed lifeboat station and the tribute to the crew of the Mousehole lifeboat lost with all its crew. I always just fill up just looking at it still after years making this little trip. The football team are evident in local activities along with the Male Voice Choir and the Penzance and Newlyn rugby club - the Mennaye Ground is another great venue. Penzance is a brilliant town _ a working place unlike the holiday and exclusive atmosphere of St Ives or Padstow but it is scenic, with decent pubs and places to eat. I can recommend the Cornish coaster between Penzance and St Ives - open top in the Summer months but a fabulous way to see the coastal villages. Will be back down in late November...cunningly having plotted it to miss any of our home games.

Mousehole AFC on 22:04 - Oct 28 with 1741 views | colinallcars | I had a mate in Badger's Cross and would get the little bus to Mousehole for (quite a) few pints of Tinners, in I think, the Ship at lunchtime. They chucked out at three but I liked to sit at the side of the port watching the buses terminate before getting a later one back to Penzance. Lovely. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Agreed, Digger. Especially about the Penlee Lifeboat disaster. I was living in Polperro in December 1981 and one evening there was a tremendous storm. We went down to the sea to watch it, not knowing then what was going on farther west. I know what you mean about 'welling up'. I have listened to the recording of the communications between the Penlee (Mousehole) lifeboat and the coastguards as the lifeboat crew try to rescue the seamen on the 'Union Star'. Eventually, it goes silent. That is a lump in the throat moment. We use terms like 'hero' rather loosely at times. Those people - commemorated in Mousehole- were true heroes.
Mousehole AFC on 12:16 - Nov 2 with 430 views | Hooping_Mad | My eldest followed them last year, Morgan Lewis was left back for them and is a distant in law so subsequently got taken to mostly away games nearer to home. Nice cub, shame he's moved now as I would have loved a trip down to the home ground. The photo in the article is against Melksham town which used to be a pretty little Wiltshire market town but sadly now resembles a building site with thousands of houses now occupying the green belt around the town. Good luck Mousehole.
