Can you remember in 91 when the Soviet Union collapsed and we promised Russia that if they let the west have East Germany back for reunification then we would NOT move NATO and the European union further east. We the west have broken that agreement repeatedly, we've moved the borders a 1000 miles closer to Moscow. Putin was very clear for more than 10 years that he won't allow Ukraine to join Nato and have nuclear warheads on the border which could demolish Moscow within 30 minutes. However, the other angle on this concerns how much sense it makes to argue that agreements between power blocs should determine the fate of weaker sovereign nations.
