Championship Team Rock Stars 20:33 - Jan 9 with 4997 views | SaintNick | Just trying to think if every town in the Championship can boast a decent band/singer etc. Hull obviously had the Housemartins, Leicester had Showaddywaddy & Kasabian and Coventry the Specials, but struggling a bit after that

One place im really struggling with Is Preston, I can't think of anyone bar one hit wonders Cornershop, who originally formed whilst at Uni in Preston but didn't really get going till they returned to Leicester, so they cant be counted. Blackburn, Plymouth & Huddersfield also seem to be a bit barren musically, Rotherham have the Reytones, but they are a bit obscure

Championship Team Rock Stars on 02:09 - Jan 10 with 3599 views | LondonSaint76 | Well, there's Craig David and Artful Dodger from Southampton Super Furry Animals, Amen Corner and Catatonia from Cardiff and of course, Tiger Bay is but a mere 1 mile walk from the centre of Cardiff so Shirley Bassey Badfinger from Swansea, there was also a band from Swansea called Pooh Sticks but they were probably more famous for someone who decided to graffiti 'yes it does doesn't it' under their name on a poster advertising a local gig than for any albums they produced. From Sunderland, Kenickie (as mentioned by Pat) who were around in the late 90's and featured on TOTP, were credited with inspiring other female guitar players to follow their lead although Lauren Laverne who has gone on to have a TV career, was a pretty average lead vocalist IMO. For Birmingham there's also The Moody Blues, Black Sabbath and therefore the mad Ozzy Osbourne, Duran Duran, UB40, Dexys Midnight Runners, Judas Priest and I think Roy Wood deserves a mention as in addition to the already mentioned ELO he was a big part of The Move in the 60's and of course Wizard Think Birmingham have edged it for the Championship! Look forward to doing it again next season in the PL

You are right Keef Hartley was born in Preston, but he didn't seem to do much musically there. I was looking for people who started their careers in their home city, rather than people who might have been born somewhere but moved away before they became well known ie Angus Young and his brothers of AC/DC fame were born in Glasgow but you could hardly describe them as a Manchester band

Robert Plant is also on the board at Wolves - don't think that would go down too well if he was a Baggies supporter!! https://www.wolves.co.uk/club/about-us/directors-profiles/

Keef Hartley spent most of his life in Preston. He was born, raised and died there and in his autobiography writes about growing up in Preston. His first gig was playing with his brother Reg in a band called the Midnighters at a church hall in Preston, his first solo album, Lancashire Hustler was inspired by his life in Preston. He played gigs at the town hall in Preston. I know he sometimes ventured out from there to play gigs at places like Woodstock but how much more Prestonian does he have to be to qualify for this thread? [Post edited 10 Jan 11:06]
