January Transfer Window 21:15 - Dec 20 with 67426 viewsHullDale

With about ten days until the transfer window opens, what’s everyone’s thoughts on the business we should be doing in January?

I’ve tried to pull squad details together as best as I can from memory here:

Joel Coleman (permanent, Summer 2022)
Jay Lynch (permanent, Summer 2022)
Brad Wade (permanent, Summer 2022)

Jim McNulty (permanent, Summer 2022)
Eoghan O'Connell (permanent, Summer 2022)
Jeriel Dorsett (loan, Summer 2022)
Sam Graham (permanent, Summer 2023)
Max Taylor (permanent, Summer 2023)
Joe Dunne (permanent, Summer 2022)
Matt Done (permanent, Summer 2022)
Aidy White (permanent, Summer 2023)
Corey O’Keeffe (loan, January 2022)

Liam Kelly (permanent, Summer 2023)
George Broadbent (loan, January 2022)
Conor Grant (permanent, Summer 2023)
Jimmy Keohane (permanent, Summer 2023)
Aaron Morley (permanent, Summer 2022)
Ethan Brierley (permanent, Summer 2022)
Stephen Dooley (permanent, Summer 2022)
Alex Newby (permanent, Summer 2022)

Abraham Odoh (permanent, Summer 2023)
Jake Beesley (permanent, Summer 2023)
Josh Andrews (loan, Summer 2022)
Danny Cashman (loan, Summer 2022)

For me, I'd be looking at O'Keeffe permanently as a priority, as well as trying to tie some of the regular first team squad down to longer deals (Summer 2022 as it stands could see an exodus!) - Coleman, O'Connell, Dooley & Newby would be the obvious contenders.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Broadbent (& maybe Cashman) head back to their parent clubs in January, with maybe Morley moving on for a fee too.

Whatever happens, now the club seems to be more settled, hopefully Stockdale will have the chance to continue shaping the squad into his own - with an emphasis on more permanent players coming in. A centre half and a natural goal poacher (in the Alfie / Dagnall mould) coming in and we could really be setting up for a strong second half of the season.

I'd imagine if another club were to pay a fee for him, it'd be with a view to him at least being a regular in their match day squad... after COVID etc, I can't see many clubs being flush enough to pay money for a player with no view of using them straight away.

There are some exceptions, such as higher league clubs buying a youngster and loaning them out for experience (ie Cashman) but O'Keeffe probably doesn't fit that mould.

Its also a very unfortunate abbreviation you've used to name him!

Doesn't that all depend on how much he is purchased for, length of contract and where the club that purchase Corey are in the pyramid? I'm not sure the budget issue is a thing considering how some clubs are still not keeping a close eye on the purse strings.

FOR SALE:

Corey O'Keefe

All enquries:

Nigel Clough c/o Mansfield Town

Its a bit of a sly dig in that Tweet since it effectively says if your team plays with a back 4 then don't sign him!

It must be horrible to know that your current employer doesn't want you.

Funny how Clough can remember that Rochdale have enquired but not name the "other clubs"......

Good - that might put a couple of potential suitors off!

I was trying to think of teams that play with 3 central defenders other than us - and didn't get very far!

I find Clough's comments a bit bizarre, he must really not rate O'Keefe if he's claiming he can only play wing back in a back three formation. If memory serves, Dale have a long history of developing solid wide midfielders in a four, many of whom you'd not describe as wingers in the same mould as your Mark Stuarts etc. I'm thinking of the likes of Graeme Atkinson on the left and Joey T on the right -- and wasn't Tony Ford converted into a right-sided midfielder having been a right back earlier in his career? I may be imagining that...anyway, I doubt we'll offer Corey a deal to play until he's 42!!

Can't help but feel the fact we haven't done a 'thank you & goodbye' post, coupled with the timing of this after the Clough interview, means there is still a chance a permanent deal is on the table.

Its hard to imagine O'Keeffe having an active part in Mansfield training based on the NC interview, and if their rumoured relationship breakdown is true.

Interesting few days coming up for us I think.

Twice in one day the Mansfield Town Twitter feed has the word Rochdale in it.

Twitter wasn't around when Steve Whitehall signed but if he was that is the only day.

I hope Corey can have a few days at home and some rest as opposed to putting out the cones for Clough's cloggers!

We’ll be fine. That well known, self-proclaimed EFL expert Gabriel Sutton is advising Dale fans on Twitter who we should be signing so all is good.

Some very clever Tweeting going on by Mansfield today.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

He's never claimed to be an expert. He's just a football fan with a knowledge of the lower leagues that is better than the general fan. He simply offers opinions, and he's far more personable than a lot of other journalists around. I'm really not sure why he bothers you and a couple of other people on here.

Just thinking that if we don’t sign Cory or a replacement over next few games, who do you think would play that role, with jimmy being out I can only see Dooley playing there, unless we go with a back 4 which I can’t see

As Odoh did an alright job at left wing back perhaps he would be even better at right wing back considering he would be playing on his natural side.

Is he a journalist, though? As in a qualified one?

Not sure about anyone else’s reasons, but my only objection to him was that he deemed a piece I wrote about our style of play under BBM as “harsh”. Fair enough, but, when challenged, he admitted he hadn’t seen a single game of ours at that point.

Sorry Shun, but that invalidates his view for me.

There were too many “experts” attacking those on social media last season who criticised what we were watching. We had, and still have, people telling us it was entertaining football.

I think Stockdale has proved that he tries to find a way to get the best players in the side.

I'm sure that the game at Colchester (if on) will see him adjust that for availablity (loan players returning + Covid/injury absence).

https://www.chad.co.uk/sport/football/lomas-on-stags-can-in-form-mansfield-town-

Rollin Meyenese became the first one to leave the club on Tuesday when he signed full-time for Walsall after a successful loan spell.

And Clough said that, with him not regularly going with wing backs, he expected Corey O’Keeffe to move on permanently too.

Both Menayese and O’Keeffe showed in patches they do have quality and have had rave reports since going out on loan, but football can often be about timing and it wasn’t to be for them at Mansfield.

O’Keeffe is back at the One Call for the moment after his Rochdale loan ended but he is expected to sign permanently for them unless another club dives in to snap him up quickly.

^ This.

He makes a living reading message boards. Nice work if you can get it, especially if you can patronise supporters of their own clubs.
