The Transfer latest thread : Rumours & Confirms on 13:51 - Aug 31 by Catullus | How many goals did Lowe score before coming here? Was he prolific at Wigan? Not really, it was 6 in 48 games there. This losing goals stuff, I always wonder why people say it. What Lowe scored last season is irrelevant now, unless he can guarantee at least as many again it's a nonsense phrase. So far this season Piroe has looked the better striker. For large chunks last season Lowe looked like his banjo couldn't find the cows arse! |
But the fact remains, in the division we are playing in this season, Lowe scored 14 in last season. I'll repeated I wasn't advocating any either or argument between him and Piroe. But it should act as an eye opener as to how short on goals our forward is.

Its all about opinions really this post was a tongue in cheek reply to a post about Martin being shafted.... THe issue as I see it is that when Martin's start is being questioned along with the wole shambles that seems to be occuring around the club these days it is seen as pro Cooper worship. All the Doc is doing is trying to offer an anopinion but with some data...For me I will always support the manager but when things are not right I will say so It "amuses" and frustrates me that the previous manager received so much stick whilst the new manager is "guilty " of the same things yet is not to be criticised? He openly admits he is a "one trick pony" therefore his play will be predictable and there fore allow opposition managers to set up accordingly , he has refused to play Whittaker our previous manager was pilloried for this. But before I am accused again of being a Cooper fan boy the point I am tryin gto make is how "one eyed" it all seems.....Cooper was open game but when "sensible" points are raised the posters are shouted down. I really hope MArtin succeeds I am concerned though because whilst he is attempting to change style of play without perhaps the right players defending of set pieces is constant and we proved to be good at that over the past two seasons yet somwhow now? I do not buy into getting relagetd if it is part of a reset....we wont get back out Lg1....things are different now our current owners do not have the "love of the club and the beautiful" game our previous ones did....they are here purely for the money....that means being in the PL that means results getting relegated will spell disaster for us as a club. As I have pointed out MArtinez had a head start he knew the squads capabilities and what it was he could/ needed to do to implement his vision whilst along the way then recruiting those to evolve it...MArtin has come in and attempted to impose his style regardless of teh resources available

Yeah but the previous manager only received stick after 2 seasons. Martin is getting it in the neck after 2 weeks! They were not guilty of the same things either. His refusal to play Whittaker may be because he's not ready or capable. I for one, did not criticise Cooper for not playing him, as I think he looked even less ready last season. Extremely poor for that matter. Yeah I agree with the set piece thing. I was gutted when Margytson left. I believe he was the reason we improved so much in that area. Remember Potter? I think we were the worst at set pieces in the league under him. Margytson comes in and improves. Margytson leaves and it's gone again. I don't buy into getting relegated wither. I don't think anyone does deep down. But I'm willing for a 17th place finish this season, as long as there is improvement and progression. I said exactly the same when Potter was here. I would have also accepted that in Cooper's first season as a manager, but wouldn't have been happy with 17th playing poor football though. OK, Martinez probably did have a headstart, but even more reason to give Martin extra time.

He wasn’t “given” time, he earned it by winning football matches. We won 7 of our first 8 matches. People had it in for him after a few weeks. I reckon it may have been the Cardiff connection. That frustration grew as the results weren’t giving the fans the outlet for anger that they craved. So they invented reasons for it.

I also suspect the "dislike" of Cooper was down to his roots..He has gone now but so many myths were created to diss him it is unreal... Again I ll be attacked as a fanboy but really i just like fairness and facts....IT has made me laugh how the previous manager was much criticised and called out as a one trick pony yet people accpet it when the current manager admits this is what he is a one trickl pony and will only ever play one way..... I hope for our clubs sake and his sake that Martin turns things around soon...I dont give with seasons to change it ...a good manager should find the compromise and then develop things as Einsten said “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

My dislike of Cooper was nothing to do with his roots or him personally. It was down to the awful quality of the football. The play off final was the final straw. I’ve watched some poor quality stuff in my time but as I get older I would rather watch teams try and play football. Whether Martin can provide this will depend on what happens today and on the training ground. If the squad are incapable of playing the way he wants and results are poor then he has a decision to make.

Possession football and accurate passing is not a 'one trick' strategy it is a philosophy. It was starkly demonstrated in Wales capitulation to Denmark in the Euros and Swansea's capitulation to Brentford at Wembley. Both Welsh teams managed by in house coaches (the Welsh way ha ha) were hopelessly out gunned against the Danish school of coaching. So much so that frustration and demoralisation kicked in with Wilson and Fulton lashing out and getting sent off. Neco Williams and Grimes also had mad moments of self destruction. In both gmes the contst was pretty much over in one half. Neither Page nor Cooper had any alternative. Coper never even tried route one and knockdowns. (plan B ). Swansea at least have a strategy and philosophy. Roberts Grimes Lowe and Bidwell have not signed up for the long term so are in their last 10 months. Russell Martin has a long term strategy like Farke had. The 2022-2023 season should see the big benefits where Downes Whittaker Joseph Cabango Benda and Copper B kick on. In that respect the out of contract four are no use to Swansea.

The quality was sufficient to get a record points haul for the club in this division.

Interesting. Sounds good. Is this philosophy demonstrated by our capitulation at the hands of Preston or Blackburn then?

Not sure what other people's thoughts are but It made no difference to me where Cooper's roots were from. Unlike the overwhelming number of fans, I have no dislike of Cardiff, and want all Welsh teams to do well, so that had no bearing at all. My issue with him was the football was incredibly dull, as successful as he was, it was not something I wanted to watch. I would imagine it is infinitely easier to get your teams to play the ultra defensive way that the way in which RM is trying to play. it is going to take a while, he needs to bed in players that are suited to his style, some of which are not here at the moment. It's a long term project which will plummet before it starts to recover and then see, (if he is backed) dividends. Really have to be patient and see it develop
