Some thinks that never change, but without question should. 03:12 - Jan 28 with 3195 viewsmylot50years

From the first of my many visits to Fratton Park that being in 1967 to this Saturday, its incredible apart from sticking some recycled plastic seats into the old 1967 standing terrace and slightly refurbish the same old singular toilet block, nothing has changed and in the 60s when health and safety was making sure you washed your hands before eating, unlike these more regulated times we live in, it's unbelievable they are getting away with a licence to trade.
The place is a fcuking DEATHTRAP !!
Incidentally that game in 1967 ended 1-1 also.

Absolute hole of a ground, almost up there with Luton.

But as I said to my mate at half time, give me this over your Emirates and St Mary's any day of the week. Love it

I got to the ground around 1.30 as I couldn’t be bothered to try and struggle to get a pint or two in a packed local pub.I thought I’d have a couple of quiet drinks in the ground.I haven’t been there since the late 80’s and that Dean Coney game.
I should’ve known that they don’t sell alcohol in the away end.The bovril was nice and tepid though. The water in the toilet taps was warmer than the bovril, which is something we don’t have in the lower loft toilets.
Around ko time it started to get really crowded in the back few rows of M block as people struggled to find a seat.Lucky I was on the end of the row,and also nobody tried to sit down as I don’t think there was enough seats to go round.
The ht rush for the toilets caused a massive queue that didn’t seem to end,so I don’t know if all the people who wanted to go would’ve managed to shuffle their way to the bogs and back before the game restarted, and the queues on the gangway at the back of the stand looked pretty dangerously overcrowded to me.
I left at full time and as I was near the back I got away pretty quickly, but some people would’ve struggled more than me.
The ground is definitely outdated and potentially dangerous and I don’t know how they get away with having those crush barriers at the top of the stairs. That might work in league 1, but I can see some serious problems if they get promoted to the championship or the premier league.

Absolutely loved it but those barriers in the ‘concourse’ were a potential huge problem.

They seemed to be filtering everyone towards the usual away turnstile when presumably there were more as the left half of the end is normally home fans.

I’d imagine a lot of fans would come to LR and say nothing’s been updated in nearly 35 years and unless they were sitting in the Directors box they’d be about right.

I thought it was a shithole and an absolute nightmare to get into the ground, get to your seat and get to the toilet at half time. Unreal that this ground hosted premier league football not so long ago.I'm sure away fans say the same about Loftus Road as well.

Great atmosphere inside the stadium though

They did give it to us from all sides when they scored though to be fair.
Not many 'prawn sandwich merchants' there.
it was great when we equalised for the same reason.

They virtually went bust a few years ago after submitting plans for a new stadium, not defending them but there are plenty of crap stadiums around the country ours being one of them.
If I'm honest I prefer the older type stadiums all day long, they undoubtedly generate a better atmosphere.

As for queuing up at half time to take a leak, we've been doing that for years, its what we do.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

I have to agree.
We have more in common with Pompey than most other Prem/Championship clubs.

My only real gripe was the pathway at the back, which felt like a death trap. Oh and missing out on the last pies as the guy in front of me was arguing about his change.

The toilets. Woah. Nothing like being in a giant crush inside a portkabin, while hearing the words behind you "Mate, come on, don't piss on the floor!"

don't forget fratton park was holding prem lge games until recently, they had the money and never used it on the ground, bar a roof.....kunts.
all the space around the ground gave scope for a real 30,000 ground,,but there may have been some of the issues, an owner said he had money and didn't, said he was buying land and didn't....sadly it will take a real disaster for anything to change there, the police stood back and just wait,,,,,
