Spot of bother now........ 17:55 - Feb 4 with 34284 views | kropotkin41 | 16 games left and not a great selection of fixtures, starting next Saturday with Yorkshire's answer to Barcelona. At first glance I reckon 15 more points............ last season that would have put us in 21st!! A few more weeks of bad form - even with good play - and things will start to look properly bleak.

Employing Ollie was an even worse one !

Spot of bother now........ on 22:26 - Feb 11 by DannytheR | Getting to be a bit of habit, everyone looking on the bright side of another plucky defeat. Hope we're this cheerful playing Doncaster next season. |
I think yesterday went beyond plucky defeat and landed on skanked good and proper. First goal aside (a big aside mind) I think we got everything else right and at times were dominating. If the worst happens we'll have to look at Burton and Blackburn.

Spot of bother now........ on 08:22 - Feb 12 with 2306 views | DejR_vu | Yesterday's result was always on the cards. It's the tossing off of three points against teams like Burton that I have a problem with. I'd swap the four points we took from Reading and Newcastle with four from Burton and Blackburn all day long

Why? same amount of points - ok less points for the others I guess but it wouldnt probably look that different...

Because it's not first past the post. I don't care if Newcastle get 90 points or 92. Blackburn getting 50 instead of 48 could make all the difference. We would have 1 point from those two fixtures either way, but consequences could be very different. [Post edited 12 Feb 2017 10:14]

...it's not even that we're struggling... it's more the dread that we get to the end of the season in 17-19th place and then what do we look forward to for next season? More of the same? This was supposed to be the year that we consolidated, refocused, rebuilt, (perhaps bumped up from 12th to 10th) - but it still looks like a mess to me. Sure Huddersfield finished 19th last season and Reading finished 17th, but I just don't see a cohesion with us. I hope I'm completely wrong.

There is no cohesion, because we're not run coherently. Our board have the attention span of gnats on coke, and no apparent sense of what kind of club they want us to be. At the moment, mostly through chance, they've installed a manager who a lot of the fans like personally, so the mood at LR is better and Tony is probably getting it in the neck on Twitter less. But results don't improve, we still work on the basis of buying half a new team every six months, and the overall point of it all is anyone's guess. We did have what seemed like a plan in place - bringing through young players and players from outside England, improving them, selling them on, bringing through the next batch — but it looks like between the anti-football of Hasselbaink and the endless dummy-spitting of some fans, that particular baby has been ditched along with the bathwater. So what's the plan instead? To me it looks a lot like muddling along in the lower half of the Championship, maxing out whatever money we have available, wheeling on new players every time the fans or manager get bored, hoping we don't get relegated in the process. We've burned through three seasons worth of Premiership income and ended up back *exactly* where we were in the days of Paladini.

Spot of bother now........ on 18:33 - Feb 11 by BazzaInTheLoft | I really can't see us going down, especially after today. I know Isaw is right and points mean prizes but I wouldn't swap our squad with anyone below us. Today we were the better side in my opinion, and against some beasts which call into question the ethics of the English loan system. We were a referee and some shitty Huddersfield behaviour from at least a draw today. We'll be fine, and I predict a nice little run without loss on the horizon. |
How about we take our chances, and stop conceding first. That might be a better strategy than blaming officials or the oppo for being "nasty" to us.

" At the moment, mostly through chance, they've installed a manager who a lot of the fans like personally, so the mood at LR is better" I doubt that was through chance. Anybody could tell you that appointing Holloway would please a large section of the fans whether or not it was the best decision.

It's not as if we signed Holloway over Guardiola is it? Holloway was and is the best fit. Every manager is slagged after a defeat no matter what the circumstances or who they are so I take a lot of it with a pinch of salt. [Post edited 12 Feb 2017 19:40]

Let's be honest, if - the at the time happily retired - Holloway was the outstanding candidate for the role, then squabbles over form versus previous managers are even more pointless than they otherwise would be. As Blucey would say, there's a dick party in our mouth and everyone is invited.
