Has handed in transfer request at Saints.

A player we should be looking at IMO.

Are you taking the p1ss? He'll be moving to a bigger club, probably w/ compatriot Mourinho.

33 years old, no spring chicken but a fantastic defender. Maybe a fee paying loan for the rest of the season?

Fonte on 16:20 - Jan 5 with 4513 viewsAustinIsOurHero

I laugh at threads like these.
Player becomes available for transfer/loan - we must/should be interested.
Same with Delofleu.
In an ideal world, we'd sign them all, but look at us from their perspective...
We're a shambles from top to bottom from the outside looking in, 3rd manager of the season & one place from the bottom of the division. Who would come here in January?
All well & good PC having these connections, useless unless he can persuade people to join.

there's a reason he's put in a transfer request ffs, he wants one big final move. Be interesting if he goes for more than Williams, given he is a year older and has 18 months on his contract

Definitely worth investigating - he wants to move because he wants to play rather than sit on a bench, which is what he still might be doing at one of the bigger clubs whereas we can guarantee him game time.

Central defender? - Yes.
Good physique? 6ft 2 in.
A proven leader? Captain of Southampton.
Too old? Aged 33, so he probably has a couple of seasons at the top level.

Jose Fonte would be one of those players who arrive at Swansea having been rejected as first-team players by their previous club, so they have something to prove. Swans who fall into that category and played against Palace included Fab, Syggi, Naughton, Cork and others. He probably won't come here, but we should still be discussing it with him.

When has fonte been sitting on the bench?

He is the main reason Liverpool bought lovren, saints were doing so well with those two in the team, Liverpool bought the wrong player.

Fonte may leave Southampton but it certainly won't be to play for Swansea!

Sell Williams for £10m to lower the wage bill.

Sign Fonte for £10m+ on wages likely far exceeding whatever Williams wanted.

Makes sense.

We're dreaming if he'd want to come to us, although he'd absolutely get first-team experience, unlike one of the top clubs.

We sold Williiams because, like Ayew, he wanted to go.
Any reduction on our wage bill was just a fruitful by-product for our owners

Agree - and he's better than Gary Cahill so you can add Chelsea to that list

We're a shambles because over the last 5/6 Windows we've not been signing players of their ilk or proven ability. Instead we've signed players like Enmes, Ngog, Tabanou, Eder, VDH, Mcburnie, Falkirk, who do not improve us but take us backwards.
