We would be mad to move Ayew on. 13:34 - May 17 with 32335 viewsSheffieldjack

There are many news outlets indicating that whether or not we keep Andre Ayew next season is down to Huw Jenkins. I think it would be madness to move our top scorer on. Surely a better option would be to keep him for at least one more season and perhaps bring in his brother, Jordan, as a further attacking option!

As always it would depend on the price offered, but his contribution last season and ability as a player is being far too easily dismissed by a surprisingly large number of people.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I agree that his contribution is being too easily dismissed. What would you consider a realistic price where we would just "have to sell"? Surely in today's crazy market £10 million is nowhere near the mark.

I think a lot depends on where we play him.

Average player in this league, but he'd need replacing in the squad and we couldn't do that for £10m minus his outstanding signing on fee.

He's the highest earner at the club afaik, so anything near £20m and I'll start the car.

To call him an "average player" is harsh considering he's our top scorer with twelve goals. You've also got to take into account that we didn't settle on playing him as our main striker until the penny finally dropped that Gomis is a waste of space.

In "today's crazy market" I'd be wanting closer to twenty.

I wonder if even that is still on the low side when figures of £45 million for Brahimi and £20 million for Lallana are being touted. I'd take Ayew over Lallana, wouldn't you?

Lallana would make a better Gylfi replacement than Ayew if it comes to that.

We can only fit Ayew into the team as a centre forward, and I would hope we're already looking for another one of them this summer. £15m plus some clauses. Final offer.

I would say that there is very little difference between Ayew and Sigi regarding skills, although they play differently they both put in a shift and have scored a similar amount of goals.
Ayew is probably more defensive minded and better at "attracting and making the most of" fouls.
Sigi is better with the dead ball and puts in more crosses.

Depends how you define 'defensive-minded'.

Gylfi works harder, pressing more often and intelligently, defending from the front.

Ayew mostly chases back, pointing at Rangel close down his man.

Neither can tackle a sunday lunch.

If by some magic we were able to bring Bony back, couldn't Ayew play alongside him in a 4 - 4 - 2 formation?

Last time we tried 4-4-2 we got battered by Villarreal.

Ayew is the sort of player you build a team around.

In fact, a spine of Ayew, Siggi, Cork, Amat / Ferd and Fab is something to build around for the future.

Many moves break down when Siggy gets involved and his first touch isn't always great

Yes, but if we were chasing a game and needing a goal a change from our normal 4-5-1 might make sense.

That is not what the stats say.
Taylor 41 tackles won 78%
Gilfi 42 Tackles won 74%
Ayew 55 tackles won 73%

Not bad for attacking midfielders when they can match the left back.

Please define "best player," but omit reference to "top scorer," as he is "top scorer" by one goal (Gylfi with 1 fewer goal on two fewer games), and Ayew is being compared against a real paucity of any other kind of scorer except Gylfi.
