We would be mad to move Ayew on. 13:34 - May 17 with 32336 viewsSheffieldjack

There are many news outlets indicating that whether or not we keep Andre Ayew next season is down to Huw Jenkins. I think it would be madness to move our top scorer on. Surely a better option would be to keep him for at least one more season and perhaps bring in his brother, Jordan, as a further attacking option!

You need to learn how football works! You're one of the ones on here who'll be slating the club next season when ayew is gone and the player who is brought in to replace him is a dud! How about we focus on replacing players who haven't brought much to the team and not one who's scored more than 25% of the goals.

You'll be pushed to find me slate the club.

Sorry to hear you have a stiffy for Andre, I hope for your sake we keep him now.

Quick question(s) for those who don't rate Ayew as a striker:

What are his faults? What are we missing when he plays up front?

a bit of height and a bit of pace, apart from that he is ideal for us as a front man

No you just slate the players instead. There's no stiffy for ayew, but I've seen us struggle to find goalscorers for years where we've always had to rely on one player. now we've got 2 decent ones, rather than build on it you'd rather get rid of one in the hope we find another. Makes absolutely no sense at all.

I agree that his height can be a slight problem in build up play when we're not playing it on the floor. But from crosses Ayew is excellent attacking the ball. His speed of thought makes up for his lack of height.

His pace is only really a problem as a winger.

i agree there not a major issue, just the slight defects i see in him. I think we'd do well to go into net season with him as our main front man, i reckon playing as a 9 he could get between 15-20 goals next season.

His movement isn't great either.

Too bad we've only had Gomis for comparison for so long.

If we shipped Ayew out and i am happy to see him go at the right price then Bony must then be a priority.

Ayew is a good player but he does not fit us as a team and makes us totally unbalanced

As always it would depend on the price offered, but his contribution last season and ability as a player is being far too easily dismissed by a surprisingly large number of people.

Which could mean he was playing for a transfer or it could mean Guidolin was getting the best out of him or, most likely, both.

I totally understand football, you obviously don't. Even when played most of the season as a winger when it's obviously not his best position he still scored double and assisted more than all our other wingers put together! Doesn't fit in tho apparently!! And this is a conversation about ayew hence the reason I'm talking about him. A bit dim as well as childish?

12 goals for a mid fielder is pretty good going no matter who he is compared to.

I posted, "Please define "best player," but omit reference to "top scorer," as he is "top scorer" by one goal (Gylfi with 1 fewer goal on two fewer games), and Ayew is being compared against a real paucity of any other kind of scorer except Gylfi."

Your only reply was what I asked you not to include. Nor did you address my reasons for asking.

I will interpret your position as being "As a midfielder, he scored 12 times, which is 'pretty good for a midfielder,' but I have no reason for claiming he was 'our best player.'"

What "we're missing when he plays up front" is that he doesn't play up front most of the game.

He's almost a "flag to flag to flag" player, popping up in the defensive midfield to take the ball, then dribbling toward the goal, usually to lose possession.

As I pointed out earlier, in the one game where he did spend a good bit of time "up front," he scored two goals.

As several others have pointed out, he has some skills but is not a team player -- a significant fault on a Swansea City team..

I don't care. I'm old. I don't have to.

No what it tells me is that even tho wing is not his natural position he still done a far better job than our actual wingers. I think the fact he was picked to play on every game available by all 3 managers and is now subject of apparent bids of £15-£20 million says you don't have a clue what you're talking about.

He is too sluggish for me, a fairly valuable player with the power to rotate him with others yes, but as the main man most certainly not. Can't see him stopping after his most recent interview which tells me he was putting himself in the shop window over March and April. We won't miss him if the club are bold with new signings.

He certainly does cover a lot of ground. Although I'd have to disagree that it's to the detriment of the team.

I'd say he works hard for the team, gets in good positions and knows how to finish.

Hopefully he can have next season playing as a central striker and not the weird striker/winger role that he's had so far.

Every club in the PL would want Ayew in their squad. Only 9 or 10 could afford him

For health reasons, even though I'm a ST holder I've missed about third of the games, and I've had to watch on line. You don't see AA's full value on the box, but when in the stand, you can see when he's a winger, that he'll take up a position in the old inside forward position, and when he goes back out he takes two defenders with him, thus creating room. He's a nightmare to mark.
