Tremmel WTF? on 20:25 - Aug 11 by Trundle10 | Don't get it personally. Jobs for the boys. Deemed surplus at the end of last season and now worth 2 years??? |
Maybe he was told we’d be bringing in another keeper and he’d have to be 3rd choice. He might have decided to turn down a contract for a move for a better chance of playing, but it has not materialised for him. So the new deal suits both parties.

I knew it was only a matter of time before the phrase "jobs for they boys" made an appearance on this thread. Soon to be closely followed, no doubt, by that other old favourite "Monk looking after his mates again".

Exactly. Why don't people just leave player recruitment to Monk. To many armchair managers.

Tremmel WTF? on 20:27 - Aug 11 by Jackfath | It's a very good point. It could be that the new keeper isn't up to it and it's been decided Gerry is a better choice. |
It's more likely I would imagine that he's been taken back on a lower package than he was on previously. He may well have had a look round to see what else was on offer before deciding to stay on less money, but has decided he likes being at the club and living in Swansea and that outweighs other offers available. It's also possible that we've decided to take on Vickers and think he's not ready for the first team if one of the other two get injured long term but is a good prospect for the future.
Tremmel WTF? on 21:01 - Aug 11 with 2294 views | Dull1Thomas | Good to have him back. If Fab is suspended or injured as happened last season a good quality 3rd choice 'keeper is essential in this league. We've been quite lucky in the past. Also good if Fab doesn't have to be on the bench if we play weakened teams in cup games.

Tremmel WTF? on 21:06 - Aug 11 with 2286 views | ScoobyWho | We loaned a keeper to Kilmarnock today so he is clearly hanging around on a smaller contract ( probably still in numerous thousands a week ) as an aged player who by all accounts has displayed a flair for coaching development since being at Swansea. Plenty of development skills and match awareness to pass on to the many keeprs we have on the books. If he is on a small salary then it could be a decent bit of business.

Great to see him back, more than likely he wil have more of a coaching role as well as being the third choice keeper.

You need a specialised keeper, but could play without a specialised striker. We have 2 strikers, plus another couple should could play there - more than enough, as we only play 1 striker.

How often do you reckon that point is going to have to be made?

Fantasy football could be positive outlets for those who haven't caught on that it's Monk's world and we're just watching it.

I wouldn't know, because I'm just a fan and don't have a hot-line to Garry Monk. He has made this decision and i don't see anything wrong with it. In Monk we trust.

But should the ratio be 5 keepers (and counting?) to 2 strikers? You have never answered my question about which other top ten clubs go with only two specialist strikers.

He wasn't deemed surplus to requirements, he was offered a short term extension but understandably decided to explore options elsewhere. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ex-swansea-keeper-tremmel-quot-my-time-in-the-uk- We couldn't ask for a better 3rd choice keeper, he's clearly well liked and a team player... and if it's true about his potential coaching ability then it's a good addition to the squad.... Who knows, he may have even agreed to take on a coaching role with the U21s/youth players as part of the contract Willkommen zurück, Gerry! [Post edited 12 Aug 2015 10:11]

Tremmel WTF? on 10:21 - Aug 12 by AnotherJohn | Depends how you count. Zabret is probably now 5th choice. Davies is out on loan (probably paid by us). Vickers played for the under 21s against West Brom and is still in the frame as 4th choice. I could see the latter on an EPL bench, though perhaps not Zabret. Now be a good boy and tell me which other of last season's top ten have only two specialist strikers. [Post edited 12 Aug 2015 10:27]

So you count U21 keepers, but not U21 strikers? I don't count either in our first team squad. How many strikers did we have last season? Didn't do us any harm, did it. As said before, we only play with 1 striker, so we don't really need another.

Well said. He obviously has a good attitude and a positive influence around the club, otherwise he wouldn't have been taken back and to be fair to him he's always done a decent job when called upon.

Tremmel WTF? on 11:17 - Aug 12 with 1328 views | Daggyjack | Welcome back Gerry! I'm sure he will be third choice keeper, which means we have if one of Lukasz or Kristoffer are unavailable, we have good back up. I agree that he will be involved with the Under 21 team, playing and helping / coaching the younger keepers, which means in two years, we will have possibly Josh Vickers as our number 3, who will had gained two years more experience, rather Tha being thrown in the deep end. Good planning again from Swansea.
