Ian Holloway claims it would be 'an absolute joke' if the Premier League refuse Blackpool permission to sign an emergency goalkeeper and avoid the possibility of striker James Beattie wearing the gloves against Aston Villa tomorrow.
Blackpool appealed to the League yesterday after Paul Rachubka damaged the cartilage in his right knee during training. Matt Gilks is still six weeks away from returning after breaking his kneecap in November, meaning the club's only available keeper is Richard Kingson, who has also been injured recently.
Holloway is now relying on a favour from the same Premier League bosses he criticised for fining his club £25,000 after he fielded a weakened team when Blackpool last played Villa in November.
He said: 'Hopefully we'll get a sub goalie, otherwise at this level it will be an absolute joke. I'm sure the other managers will understand.'
If permission is refused, former Manchester United keeper Roy Carroll - a free agent after leaving Danish side Odense - is a potential option. Or Beattie could take over if Kingson is injured again. | |
