Late 60s early 70 The Printers Arms used to be in there 7 nights a week and Saturday and Sunday lunch time. Bitter at 1s 11p Not quite 10p in todays money and mild 1s 8p.

The bar on Rochdale railway station was officially titled the Grosvenor Arms. Former Hornets player Tony Gourlay was one the licensee there.

I noticed none of the many clubs in Rochdale had been on those lists,so I imagine there`ll be a few of those gone too. I think we all have fond memories of the pubs we used to frequent. Friday,Saturday,Sunday nights doing the rounds in town. All meet at the Navvy,then toddle off to the Eagle,Junction,Swan,Drake,Citizen,then back to the Navvy for kicking out time. I used to play darts in the Manor (Sam Smiths) League on Thursday nights,darts,cards,snooker in the Federation League (Working Mens` Clubs) ,on Mondays. Dale,Bury or Oldham were always playing on Tuesdays,City or United on Wednesdays,so what a great social life I had,and there were plenty like me. That`s not including the football on Saturdays and up to Hornets on Sundays! But we were all working and there`s the rub. I might only have been on twenty odd quid a week,but as Arfur said,a pint was less than two bob,so a pound would get you well oiled and you`d still have enough for a pie and chips,and a tanner for the last bus. Makes me wonder why I pissed off to New Zealand when I did now!! | | | |

It was when you were still a glint in your fathers eye. It was around 66/7 When Les Buckley had it. If you got a pint of bitter he would give you a penny sweet as change.
Stopped going in around 1974 when I left Rochdale to go to the big smoke. Bill Wildgoose had it then. Married er indoors in 76, came back to Rochdale took her in the Printers, she said your not going in there again. Ok dear I said and that was that. | |
