Well, these music threads are much less depressing than the QPR ones at the moments so here is a link to an interesting article from the BBC site. A few surprises there but more importantly what is your best cover version.
A ballad-style version of 'Walk Away Renee' by Linda Ronstadt. Ronstadt was the best-selling female artist of the 1970s. A couple of years ago she announced that she had lost her voice.

In my experience, if there's a song where you REALLY love the original, then it's very rare that you hear a cover version of it and you end up liking it more than the original. Often you end up liking both, but when it comes to the crunch it's the first version you loved that remains your favourite.
One exception to this rule is this cover by Maria Mckee. I was already a huge fan of the Dusty Springfield version when I first heard this. But the band play really well on this, the guitar solo is ace and MM just sings the shit out of it.

Yes Pete I feel that way when I hear covers of Love Will Tear us Apart. The original is so special I would feel like I was letting down Ian Curtis himself if I preferred someone else's version more!

How crap was Lorde at The Brits last night with Life On Mars - brilliant as Bowie was - his voice was never his genius - however in comparison to her monotone ramble.....

I recommend Georgia Mancio's Portuguese version of 'Life on Mars'.
