Why? Is Dyer better than Montero has looked so far?
And if we are going to play with 2 strikers in Bony and Gomis who will be playing wide right? Gylfi or Routledge?

What??? The Montero who hasn't played a first class game for us yet?

Well lets be honest, Monk didnt seem particularly interested in using Dyer towards the end of last season - he was more interested in having JDG out there. Not sure he feels too much love for 2 out and out wingers tbh.

Given how that looked today, Rangel is being totally left on his own on the right - not great for his little legs.

Well it depends which you put more emphasis on - quality of individual players or shape/tactics?

We've got by over the last few years by our whole being greater than the sum of our parts, and that has been down to the way we played. It seems now as though we have more quality, but the tactics are being moved around.

Great if it works, fcking disaster if it doesnt. Lets hope we go back to something more familiar when the real stuff starts.

I'll be honest.. I don't know what the f*ck went on today.. I didn't really watch it.. The odd 10 minutes here and there..

But gaping holes were being exposed.. 451 is the formation for next week

Flappy

Rangel..Amat..Williams..Taylor

Ki..Britton

Dyer..Gylfi..Montero

Bony

We need a RB competing with Rangel
A new CB in case Williams has a blooper
A Solid DM
And JDG..

I'd like to see some shape and a team I feel confident in.. If we lose 1-0.. 2-0.. But see some improvement from that shambolic atrocity just now.

So, lets assume that either Dyer or Routledge are going to replace Montero in the starting line up.
Would it have made much of a difference?
The point is that we have stopped playing in the way that has served us well. The midfield and defence need further strengthening and we have 1 week left to go.
That side will get torn to pieces by United next week without some new signings coming in to strengthen.

Well, we cant play any worse than that, no. But we can, and will, play teams who are better and will punish us even more - especially next week.

True. And lets be honest, it should really have been 5 or 6 nil such was the hammering we got today .

Don't think ive seen us that poor for a long time so it leaves the conclusion that there was a different approach taken and perhaps an experiment or two, least thats what i like to think !!

No mun.
If we'd had another winger, Siggy would have been in the hole. Big difference

But then 1 of our 2 better players Bony or Gomis will be on the bench.
I would prefer to see Gylfi in the hole and do think that would strengthen the side, but the central midfielders need strengthening with players who want to keep possession of the ball. And a solid centre back who is comfortable with the ball.

Do you know anything about the team at all.
Routledge plays on the left and Dyer on the right.
As to your question, Routledge has scored 2 goals in the friendlies and is about on par with Montero. although it looks like Montero can cross better.

Well you only need to see.. Gylfi on the wing.. Villarreal taking shots at will.. Practically camping in the box.. Bartley like a kid in the playground doing full circles.. And Williams waiting for that Villarreal lad to nod in off the bar.. Plus Shelveys 80 yard blooper balls.. Plus we looked unfit shadow chasers..

NEW CENTRE HALF.
DM NEEDED.
A WINGER SO WE DONT EVER HAVE TO PLAY 4-4-2 DUE TO INJURIES.
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER PLAY 4-4-2!!!!!

All that and we can forget about todays game.

I'd be more happy with that lineup than what we saw today. Leaving Routledge and Gomis out wold cause me some concern, however, but with them on, who of your XI wold sit?

p.s. I was not overly concerned with today's game or result, but I'm never one to run around screaming and pulling out my hair over a pre-season result. The quality of play was not up there yet, but I can understand why and can live with it in a pre-season game..

I don't care. I'm old. I don't have to.

Routledge is injured.. And Bony knows the system more.. Plus defending corners he's superb..

My worry is CB and DM mainly.. Williams has bloopers.. And I wouldn't mind a CB who can give his head a little wobble.. Garry needs to be a manager (not a mate)..

Plus DM.. I wouldn't feel confident of Ki and Shelvey as a partnership.. We need somebody who can compete with Leon..

These are the two key areas for me
