I wonder if anyone could let me know if the planned expansion is for an "extension" on the current upper tier in terms of more rows at the same stand, or is it a completely new tier going on top of the existing upper tier thus creating an upper upper tier?
its a complete new tier with executive boxes on all 3 stands. the planning application is on the link below http://www.swansea.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=55579 the link doesn't bloody work properly, type in Landore in to the street name then scroll down to 2013/0554 and all the plans are in there.

Wow, that'll be awesome. Let's hope if it gets built, it'll be used for the majority of games.

The plans show a line of boxes directly behind the current last row in the East then 13/14 rows of seats above the boxes and back towards the river. It's not an extra tier jutting out above the existing seats.
The same idea will be used on the North and South if it happens.

Right, those seats will be quite far from the pitch then. I would prefer a bowl type effect, keep the deafening noise from the fans in.

I was under the impression when all this started, that the stadium could not be enlarged itself. Rather, they would build the 'extensions' separately, and the new stands would 'hang'over the original structure.
If the club have any ambition to stay or perhaps grow in the league, then the club need a expansion! Its so simple! Why? because a big stadium is important for the club status and the only reason why not could fill a 33.000 stadium in PL is a incompetent management!
In germany Hoffeheim, fill a 30.000 stadium, but Hoffenheim is a small village and the whole area around Hoffenheim in Sinshem county were there is only 33.000 people :)
Wolfsburg is also a small city, who can fill a stadium without any problems.. 120.000 people..
Its just go the other way, than selling tickets to 30+ pund. Invest in the fans by a expansion and thereafter a PL game should never cost more than 20 PUND! that is the future. Players want to play on a big arena with a lot spectators, with only 20.000 it would always be hard to attract players.. The expansion should not been seen as a direct investment to get more revenue, but to get more fans involved.
A expansion will cost 15-20 mio £ Dont buy any players in this window and use the profit from last year... + get a railway station near bye the government! problem solved move on :)

The plans are there for all to see on the Council website.
The current stadium foundations could not be used to support the extension. The plans show new foundations being built further back towards the river.
Couldn't agree more - 3000 would be fine for the first stage. I have a JA membership and have rarely had a problem getting tickets for home or away games. Your point about re-investing in the team is also good one and more important than people wanting to sit
Maybe that's because you have a lot of points?
I don't understand why people are so negative about expansion. The extra seats will bring in a lot more than 3 million, that's just ticket sales, there will be extra match day revenue and commercial dept sales too. And, those extra seats will bring in that money for as long as they are being used, expansion is a must if the club is to grow. And to give us the best chance of staying up long term, we must grow. Anyone who cannot see that baffles me!!

Exactly. If the roughly 4000 extra seats in the first phase do sell out they would bring in about £2 m a year. At a rough cost of £5 m (£15 m total for the whole extension over 3 phases) the first phase would be paid for after 3 seasons.
And if the board is justified in completing the whole 11,000 seat extension then the extra income will be about £6 m a year. That's a maximum of course. I understand the argument about whether we'll sell out regularly or just for the big games. That argument will be made as each phase is built.

You're ignoring the surrounding area and the background with Hoffenheim there. Major sugar daddy and a couple of big cities and major employers not so far away. It's hardly Tenby United making it big.
Agree on the general point though. Stadium expansion is absolutely critical to our long term future at this or any level.

THe Surrounding area is packed with competition, so i don't understand that viewpoint. but i agree with the sugardaddy :)
My point is, that without a stadium expansion, there is only one way, and that is down. I would rather save money on transfer now, to get the exspansion in motion. And of couse its a gamble, but rather take a gamble on a stadium than take a gamble on a new signing.. But if the club dont get a expansion, its just matter of time we get relegated!
There is no cool thing about having the smallest stadium in PL, its just pointing out the obvious . That Swansea City is the smallest club in PL!!
A stadium exspansion would be a one cut loss, because i really think the stadium expansion should give cheaper season tickets rather than get more revenue. Getting more fans is more vital!! and get them involved!

Yep. Said much the same myself. Hopefully the will is there.
There have been a couple of articles on this today after the plans were approved. Anyone else think it's a bit odd that there's been no comment from the club? A few quotes from other stakeholders, even Trundle, but nothing from the board?
I guess they're too busy hiding bricks and signing Championship players ;)

Aww, you can't ask a seemingly rhetorical question then immediately use up the obvious punchline yourself without giving others a chance mun. Not fair.
What's happening to the surrounding roads/infrastructure then?
Nothing, we're all going to cycle there innit, or something.
The travel plan is based on deterring people from using cars; I believe the existing road system will remain as it is. There'll be more park and rides, travel schemes involving club-run coaches picking people up from across Swansea etc.
What's happening to the surrounding roads/infrastructure then?
They're just going to tack the existing shamonga up.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.
My favourite scene from the movie, cracks me up every time.
''Eww ff*ckin TW*T"
Been a good ten years since I last watched it. A situation that needs rectifying,

I hope the executive boxes don't put an end to standing in the east, we cant be blocking the view from those boxes now can we!
Where does the 5 million figure to build behind the east come from?
My personal opinion is that building behind the east will be expensive, behind the north and south should be more straight forward.
HJ said the cost of the whole expansion would be about £15 m (at a Fans Forum). As the East extension is roughly a third I guessed at £5 m but it will probably be more because of the riverside foundations.
Brightened up a cold filled morning. Reminds me of my nanna (Hafod girl) - for years I thought my middle name might be 'youlittletw*t'. She was lovely and I probably was.
